Features > Save Money > Save Money In Your RV: Radius Method
Here are some of the most common ways to save a bit of money and still be on the road enjoying your RV. Feel free to add more or discuss these below.
Stay longer at your campground or RV Park. Enjoying more time on a 200 mile trip versus a 400 mile trip reduces mileage driven and fuel. Many people will think, “how about a southwest trip? Let's go to New Mexico , Arizona and southern California . We got three weeks to do it.” Well, the fact is that you can spend years covering those state areas and not see it all. How about three weeks in one part of a state. From ghost towns to parks, cafes to buffets, hiking trails to lakes, there is bound to see more of real life to see in an area than just the interstate exits.
Take out your map and an old (or new from office stores) drawing compass . Make a radius of however many miles, say 100 miles. Look at all the places you can explore within in that range.
Or go to Google Maps . Find your campground on the map. Right click your mouse and select “Directions from here”. A point will be marked on the map. Then pick another nearby spot. It doesn't really matter where just yet. Right click on this second spot that you picked out and select “Directions to here”. You now have a line on the map between two points labeled A and B. You can then left click and hold your mouse on the B spot. Drag it around and watch what happens. You should see the miles total on the side of the screen, along with changing directions. You can move this point all around to get an idea of the distances of nearby attractions and towns.
Happy exploring and let us know if you use this method and what you found.
