It’s wintertime, and that means it’s time to work on your ski game. Even if you’ve never skied before, and you have no interest in doing it now, going to a ski resort gives you an excuse to buy cute winter outfits and fetching new boots so you can pose in the ski lodge with your hot chocolate and an engaging book. Personally, I think everyone should try skiing at least once. I remember my first time, on the baby slopes of the Poconos. I think it was fake snow, but it was still a rush.
There’s nothing like putting on your cool sunglasses (Bono style), stepping into your skis, and gliding down a smooth path of snow. It’s amazing how the crisp air can warm your soul, not to mention activate your endorphins. Plus, if you don’t know how to ski, there’s always someone to teach you. You may be surprised just how social ski resorts can be. Are you convinced yet? Here are some of the best ski resorts in the world, if you’re willing to give them a try:

1. St. Regis Aspen Resort (Colorado)

Aspen is almost synonymous with skiing in the US, and the St. Regis has one of the best resorts in the world. It’s where you go to see and be seen, because celebrities can’t get enough of this place. It also features a heated outdoor pool, and butler service, if you’re so inclined.
2. Hotel Park City (Utah)

Located in the mining town of Park City, this resort is also one of the sites of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah. So you’ll have the distinguished honor of skiing down the same slopes as world class athletes!
3. Hotel Dorf Gruener Baum (Austria)

This location is committed to luxury. It has a Shiseido Beauty Lounge that specializes in anti-aging treatments. And how can you top skiing in Austria, on the Gastein Mountains? I don’t think it’s possible.
4. Badrutts Palace (Switzerland)

Okay, it actually is possible to surpass skiing in Austria, when you think of skiing in Switzerland! Imagine it– skiing on the famous Alps, in the almost equally famous town of St. Moritz? This hotel is also a landmark, built in 1856, and still one of the best in the game. At the Badrutts Palace, you can even go for a husky sleigh ride. How exciting!
5. Mzaar Ski Resort (Lebanon)

Skiing in Lebanon? It’s mind blowing, isn’t it? But they actually have slopes about 75 minutes away from Beirut. You can ski down 42 trails in the mountain range of Ouyaune El-Simane, and then visit the Mediterranean Sea later that afternoon. Talk about packing for all seasons!
6. Beaver Creek (Colorado)

This resort is one of my favorites. It’s designed to look like a Swiss village, or something out of a Disney movie. You may even fall under its spell, and have to continually remind yourself that you’re actually in America. This resort is very family-friendly, and is consistently praised for excellent guest service. A definite pick for beginners.
7. Mountain Thunder Lodge (Colorado)

And what list would be complete without a mention of Breckenridge? This particular ski resort is located in Summit County, very close to the town of Breckenridge. It boasts of having the highest chair lift in North America, that goes some 12,840 feet. This one is not exactly for beginners, but it’s worth a second look.
