I've worked in many hotel waiting jobs and I can remember watching the discomfort on the faces of guests that let the waiters play on their good natures (of which I was one, of course). I would advise you to only tip if the service was exceptional, any less goes unrewarded. Make this clear early in your stay by tipping one star waiter and not tipping another. You will either get the same waiter for the duration of your stay or the others will step up to the plate. Waiting staff, sadly, rely on tips ... that doesn;t make you responsible if they are no good at their jobs.

Cheers

I'm a waitress and I once saw a person messing with money on another table. Said he was getting change for his bill !

It's sad that this has happened lately. I have a friend who is a waitress who wound up waiting on myself and another friend. She later joked about the mutilated one dollar bill I left her. I left a five dollar bill, not a one dollar bill. So the tip was either altered by a customer or a bus person. That's more likely in this case rather than someone bothering to switch bills.
