The Dorrington Hotel was built by John and Rebecca Gardner in 1852. It was a stage coach stop on the Big Trees Carson Valley Road and served as a depot for stockmen. When a post office was established, Rebecca's maiden name was submitted and the town was called Dorrington ever since.
Legend has it that Rebecca Dorrington Gardner's ghost haunts the old hostelry to this day.
