Menger Hotel Ghost Story

One night after an argument with her husband, Sallie White, a chambermaid at The Menger Hotel in San Antonio, stayed at the hotel (presumably with another man). The next day her husband threatened to kill her. On March 28, 1876, Sallie was attacked by her husband and she died two days later. The hotel paid for the funeral cost of $32, as recorded in the hotel ledger. Legend has it that Sallie White still roams the halls of the Victorian wing of the hotel. A few years ago, a guest wanted extra towels. He opened the door of his room and called out to a maid who ignored him. The guest called the front desk to inquire why the maid was so rude. He described the maid and her uniform -- one that was worn in the late 1800s.

Message: One day, i walked into the hotel after hearing so many stories. I went to the 3rd floor with my boyfrand and decided to fool around and knock on vacant room doors to see if anyone would knock back. Of course, no one did. So as my boyfrend tryed, I looked 2 my right and saw the bottom half of a long flowing light blue/grey skirt or dress. I saw a side view of it walking into a wall or room. I became curious so i grabbed my boyfrends hand and walked down to were I saw the figure. When I got to it, there was a door. All of a sudden, we herd scratching on the wall. I grabbed my boyfrend and took off running down da corridor and down da 3 flooors of stairs and didint stop till i got back to the 1st floor. I was so scared...i kno it was sallie white because i went on a ghost tour and th 3rd floor was said to be haunted by her and other stories matched....

Message: I stayed at The Menger Hotel this year in July with my family. My Aunt and Uncle left my cousins and I at the
hotel so that they could spend some time alone at a bar near by.Around 11pm we heard knocks on the wall every now and then.When my uncle and aunt came back to the hotel and we all were trying to sleep We heard a knock on the wall then a sound of a man moaning.We knew that no one was in the other two rooms beside us so it seemed odd to be hearing what we heard.During the night my uncle said he could feel like someone was in the room with us. He had to share the bed with his family and there was only one corner of the bed with no one laying down on.He said he felt the mattress behind him bend down he tried to turn his head slowly to see what was behind him but when he looked there was nothing. The next morning on his left top shoulder there was a small red mark on his back, like if a person had scratched him.To this day we cannot figure out where he got it from, and we stayed in the newer part of the hotel but below us was the old part.
