Childproofing Your Hotel Room

A hotel room is a small version of your home. You need to take the same precautions. You may want to call the hotel and see if they have any childproofing equipment on site.

-Check all furnishing for sharp edges. Check electrical outlets. Bring your own safety caps if you want. Just remember to remove them when you leave.

-Look at the floor for items left behind. Needles, tacks, staples or anything that can give splinters.

-Check for furniture that can tip over or is unsteady.

-Check the door locks and see how easy they are to open and make sure they close well. You don't want a child going back to the room and leaving the door ajar.

-Check your plastic bags and any cords in the room.

-Unplug any electrical devices in the bathroom or near water. Never leave your child in the bathroom alone.

-Show how your child can look through the peephole in the door to make sure they know who is knocking. Find a chair they can safely push against the door if necessary.

Cribs or infant sleeping

-Check the quality of the crib in the room. Is it up to standards? Remove any pillows or blankets that can cause suffocation. The best case is that you have your own portable crib.
