For Gila Bend FamCamp: Stayed one night on March 19,2023. Pros- Very spacious sites, very clean, very secure, good Wi-Fi. Bathroom and shower clean. The proximity to the Commissary, about four blacks was nice, it was small but had everything we needed. Cons- They close at 5 pm and we missed it by 5 minutes but they did call us and took my credit card information and assigned us our spot. Forget to ask for Wi-Fi password but turns out we didn’t need one, it was automatic. Only one shower and one stool in men’s room. Overall good experience and would definitely stay here again. You can here the jets at night but not after 9 pm.

For Gila Bend FamCamp: I'm rating this in categories: 1st, the Gila Bend Auxiliary AFB personnel. Lodge Magr. Pam is nothing less than Stellar! The hospitality staff are all wonderful, as are the Civilian Security Team that keep the Field secure. 5-Stars for all of them! The Famcamp costs $12 per day, and open all year (although I cannot imagine why anyone would stay during the summer with temps of 110 and higher!) For $12, you get full hookups, free laundry (aging machines), pull-through spaces big enough for any sized rig. As for the Star-Gazing mentioned by others.. well, not anymore, at least anywhere near the campground. Maintenance personnel have been replacing the area-light bulbs in the campground area with SUPER-BRIGHT LED heads that are extremely annoying! I was here last year and most of the lights were lower-wattage,amber-colored lights, that were sufficient for security, but not bright enough to ruin the night sky! Because of the proximity to the Barry Goldwater Bombing range, there is arsenic in the ground water. Years back, the Base installed reverse-osmosis water filtration systems at each camping space.. but these have aged, many of the components have eroded, and not so sure that they can be trusted to do the job? The water is supposedly tested for arsenic levels.. but? So, having lots of bottled water on hand for drinking, cooking, face-washing, etc., is a must. There is very little activity on base other than the fly-bys of jets from Luke AFB and Yuma. There are no facilities other than the laundry, and lobby area of the lodging building. We are 45 miles to the closest grocery/Walmart stores. The Town of Gila Bend, 5 miles north is a virtual dump with a defective McDonalds, the Carl's Jr is kind of OK. The few other restaurants are filthy, as is most of the town itself. So basically, if you are like me and deal with extreme PTSD, and like solitude/isolation.. this might be the perfect spot for you!

For Gila Bend FamCamp: We stopped for a night and were very happy with the cost, full hook-up and desert sky. People were very pleasant to deal with and they even have RO water at the site. We’ll be making this a stop on our travels in the future.

Joe

For Gila Bend FamCamp: Friendly staff, gate guards are nice and always patrolling. See some jets flying in and out. Base is pretty deserted but it is just an auxiliary field, so it’s quite and the sky gets dark dark and the stars are amazing! At $12 a day full hookup and free laundry I can’t complain at all. I did call ahead and other people are correct, there are no reservations, but I just made sure to call the day before, talk to Pam, she let me know that they were currently a few spots open. came in after hours, gate guards told me exactly how to get there, signed me in, said pick any open spot and so I did.

Heidi

For Gila Bend FamCamp: Would like to give it a four star but no tv antenna channels. Must have satellite. Cell reception was fine. $12 for full hookup! But you can’t make reservations… so you drive out to the middle of nowhere and pray they have a spot. Lots of dry camping until one becomes available. You can only stay 179 days then you must leave for 24 hours and then you can come back. All gravel. Lots of walking paths. Concrete patio pads. Epic stars. Laundry and very friendly checkin host. There are low levels of arsenic in the water but they have put on purifiers. No services on base. A few in town. Burger King MacDonalds, etc. Two hours from Tucson. Enjoyed our one night stay. Will come back but without antenna channels husband won’t stay long.

Big Don

For Gila Bend FamCamp: Well what can I say that hasn’t already been said , there’s nothing to do or see here. There’s two Mexican restaurants in town, one pizza place, and a couple of other restaurants too, 4 gas stations of which two of them are truck stops. I have not been into ether of them. When the wind blows you can bet you’re going to have sand in your camper.. it’s good in the respect that it’s only $12 a night full hookups. You can’t drink the water. It’s ok for sinks and toilet.in town you can get water bottles filled up for.25 cents a gallon and 20 lbs of ice for $2 .. that is all...!

Ray

For Gila Bend FamCamp: The place is great for a layover however, there is no commissary and no PX. Bring whatever you have. The office was nice and it is first come first serve. We came in after hours and just picked an empty spot and paid in the morning. The laundry is free!
