For Gilbert Ray Campground Tucson Mountain Park: This is a very nice desert campground. Very clean. Good dump station and tank filling access. New 50A/30A at each site is great, allowing prohibition of generators. I wish that every County, State and National Park would follow suit. Adjacent to Saguaro N.P. filling the need for the N.P. campground that doesn’t exist. Sites are a bit short and rough, could use gravel and grading. Despite the seemingly remote location, Tucson is nearby, which means no dark skies. Without water at campsites, showers would be a nice improvement, and better justify the $35 nightly fee. The online reservation system is terrible, don’t bother, just call for reservations.

For Gilbert Ray Campground Tucson Mountain Park: I was really looking forward to spending the holidays here but should have know from all the difficulty accessing and using the website it was not going to be a 5 star stay. Don’t get me wrong, the views are beautiful! The website to reserve is a horror story. So user unfriendly, I ended up making reservations for the wrong month and didn’t realize until I got the emailed confirmation. I tried to contact someone immediately but this was on a weekend and there is NO ONE available on weekends or after hours. Also, for a large part of the year, there’s NO ONE to help you figure out the monstrous website. Anyway, finally got a hold of someone the following Monday who changed my reservation. The only thing left was A Loop which has 50amp (which I didn’t need) but these sites are more expensive. I assumed they were designed for larger class A RV’s but these are SMALL sites. I have a 3500 dually and truck camper and I took up the entire site. Anyway, FYI: NO SHOWERS! For this price you should be getting a hot tub. I was told on entering there was a “nice sink to wash your hair by the bathroom.” Also FYI: dogs are NOT ALLOWED anywhere on the trails in the Tucson Mountain Park, which this campground is a part of and consists of hundreds of miles of trails. Also FYI: You need to be out of you site by ELEVEN AM! This is worse than some hotels. The bathrooms were old and dated but mostly clean. Found garbage in my site when I came. There is certainly no grooming of sites or gravel here. I was able to get level after back and forth if my truck to fit it in in such a way as to be level side to side, but my nose was still higher than my rear, but doable. It’s a lovely location, but I won’t be back and neither will my dog.

For Gilbert Ray Campground Tucson Mountain Park: Gilbert Ray is an impeccably maintained, natural, spacious and beautiful campground. If you orient your camper just so, you can take in the mountains and wild desert vegetation as you awake. Electricity is available at each RV campsite and potable water is nearby. Tanks may be emptied also in a spacious area that can accommodate two RVSs at a time. There are no showers, but restrooms are within each of four loops. Aside from at least one site with ants, the maximum one-week respite is worth much more than the $20 nightly charge. Tucson may be close by, but it is invisible to the senses.

For Gilbert Ray Campground Tucson Mountain Park: Campground has electric and water and is very convenient to west side of Sagauro NP. Bathrooms left much to be desired. While clean the stalls themselves were built for pre-schoolers. There is plenty of room to make the stalls bigger but these were a joke

For Gilbert Ray Campground Tucson Mountain Park: Great experience here! Easy self check-in system. We stayed in the H loop which is first come, first serve. The view from ir campsite was great as you can see. Definitely bring bug spray to this area.

For Gilbert Ray Campground Tucson Mountain Park: We stayed here for three nights to visit Saguaro National Park. Being in the campground is like being in the park with fabulous views on all directions and beautiful sunsets. Staff were excellent including answering questions when we were making reservations. I got call backs and then checks to make sure we were called. The campground is clean with recycling and the sites are sufficiently apart. While water would have been nice the electrical hookup was a
necessity to easily run our AC during the day. It’s next directly to the Western side of the Saguaro NP and about 35 minutes from the Eastern section. We were here April 13,14,15, 2021.

Debra Reisenthel
For Gilbert Ray Campground Tucson Mountain Park: Beautiful setting. Good quality sites that are spacious. Sites back up to desert, beautiful sunsets. Hiking from the campground was very nice. Hiked Brown mountain from site. Spectacular views. We drove to Tucson and rode different river trails on our bikes. Would definitely stay again. One downside is that we made a reservation online and when we got there someone was in our site. Nobody was in front to check us in because of Covid, and there was a note saying take any place that is open. We were lucky to find a place that we liked, but it was annoying since we had chosen our site carefully online.
