For North Beach - Pismo State Beach: Definitely a busy, city campground. We stayed on a Saturday night and there were at least 10 groups that had a dozen people or more. Lots of people playing loud music, not to mention plenty of generators. The beach is definitely the redeeming feature here - beautiful, huge, and relatively less crowded than other nearby stretches. Bathrooms were newer and clean but showers will cost you $1 for 4 minutes. We enjoyed it for one night, walked the beach, then decided to move on.

For North Beach - Pismo State Beach: Great Campground, clean newer restrooms with showers. Walk to beach, and "down town" Pismo Beach from there. Be warned though, this is extremely popular with (many rude) people from the Central Valley in the summer. Park rangers seem to never enforce the "8 people per site" rule and you end up with 8 tents in one site or multiple RV's in one site - that party all night! (No rangers at night either). We have personally witnessed a huge family reunion with 30+ people in one site here! (Across from our site - they park on HWY 1 and walk in). So late spring to late summer - this is a noisy crowded campground. Best time to visit is late fall to early spring when its more like urban "camping". I so wish the state parks would enforce the 8 per site rule, and designate a section of each campground for those who want to "Camp - be quiet - and get back to nature" and the rest of the park could be for those who want to party - all night! :( For quieter beach town summer camping try Morro Bay, or San Simeon SP.

For North Beach - Pismo State Beach: Just stayed one night. Didn't use restrooms. Nice layout beautiful beach and really nice area under huge cypress trees near beach. Monarch butterflies come to the area in the winter apparently.

For North Beach - Pismo State Beach: The layout is not for those seeking a primitive experience, but after staying at Monta a de Oro State Park the night before, it was a great contrast. GREAT views of the ocean and sunset and totally happy they allow dogs on the beach.
Showers are always a plus and clean!
I can't wait to go back.

For North Beach - Pismo State Beach: Gret campground! Staying during mid october and the weather couldnt be nicer! Campground is crowded and i have been staying the weekdays. First come first serve except for thursday, friday and saturday. If i have no reservations I alway arrive around 9:30/10:00 am to grab a free spot that has just been vacated. Clean restrooms/showers. Nice beach, beautiful monach butterfly garden! There always seems to be alot of families with kids anytime of year
