For Grassy Pond Recreation Area: Easiest place to stay at. Beautiful ponds and great walking trail. Very close to all needed gas station, grocery, or restaurant. I picked a great spot on my own since they don’t assigned them. Great overnight stay if needed and super quiet.

For Grassy Pond Recreation Area: We weren’t expecting much based on the other reviews but were pleasantly surprised. They have specific sites for overnight camping. Those sites are all pull through. Each site has a concrete patio area. Our site #17 was level. Good water hookup and electric pedestal was in good shape. The office clerk was very friendly and helpful. We talked with folks who are wintering here from MI and they love it. Very quiet as well.

For Grassy Pond Recreation Area: Place is not very well maintained pretty run down. Good place to just get off the road for the night. $40.00 per night for p/w/s, cable does not work no Wi-Fi.

For Grassy Pond Recreation Area: This is an Air Force recreation area on a good sized pond with a campground up the hill in the woods. They have cabins, picnic area including a large screened room, playground, boat rental and a poorly maintained campground. It has recently been opened to the public. We have used the campground many times in our trips to or from Florida but this time we were informed that the one night camping fee is $40/night for military, $55 for non military campers. Some camp sites not level, all are sand or dirt pads, electrical outlets in poor condition, cable didn’t work. Make sure you bring your wallet if you want to spend any time here; everything is for rent including $2.50 for daily rent of a frisbee, $8 for ice chest, $10 with ice. We can only surmise that they have lost all MWR funding or that they have transformed a once-nice military recreational facility into a profit center, that now appears to be out of the price range for young military families. I can no longer recommend this facility

For Grassy Pond Recreation Area: Wonderful place on a beautiful lake. Close to I-75 and grocery store. Nothing fancy but I'm glad we stayed. Recommended.

Lora

For Grassy Pond Recreation Area: Cheap with full hookups and nice staff. Sites are run down, on dirt with hardly any gravel, old cracked concrete picnic pads, overgrown and buggy. Good for an overnight but I wouldn’t stay longer. Needs lots of maintenance on grounds, broken dangerous plastic drain covers and fire ants.

LIONEL

For Grassy Pond Recreation Area: Would never know this campground is affiliated with Moody AFB which is about 25 miles to the north in that it is in need of some TLC. It appears that this facility is contracted out/run by an independent contractor & is open to the general public that seem to use it mostly on weekends. No camp host in the campground during our stay other than an occasional staff member passing by on golf cart. Most sites are shaded with full hook up but the grounds are poorly maintained in that there are fallen branches and Spanish Moss that has fallen from trees on or around several sites. Observed several lawn chairs belonging to the facility scattered around that looked nasty and I think were meant to be at the fire pit area near "hut". The rec room or "hut" as it was referred to is not always cleaned each day and if it is, it gets trashed by careless adults and or unsupervised children (personally observed 3 kids romping around on pool table felt top w/shoes on. It does have laundry facilities there as well if they are in working order, but again it can get messy with paper and trash left on the floor (dryer sheets, detergent containers, etc) including the bath rooms (sometimes bathrooms weren't always replenished with paper products). Observed teenagers overloading the washing machines to save money I assume. Maybe a combo lock might help somewhat. There were several long term homesteaders (some civilian contractors amoung them) occupying sites during our stay with a few having set up with all kinds of junk around. Suspect that this is allowed or no one seems to care. Bright side is that it is pretty peaceful during the week and there is a nice lakefront down by the office building. Rates during our stay were $30 p/day military and $40 for general public - rates less by the week. In all fairness, the neglect may be due to minimun staffing and budgeting concerns but does not leave a favorable impression as to being a military recreational asset as far as the camp sites go.
