For Fort Custer Recreation Area: This is a very nice park. There are two campground loops: East and West. I had site 80 in the West loop and was very happy with it. There is a lot of vegetation in the West loop that gives a lot of privacy. The East loop still has a lot of trees but not as much as the West. The majority of sites were easy to back into because they were angled. The bathrooms and showers were well maintained. There are 3 lakes. Eagle Lake has a nice large beach and the water is good for swimming. There are kayak, canoe and paddle board rentals. There are hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails. As I was hiking a trail, I saw people fishing off a small pier on Whiteford Lake. I was there Monday to Thursday starting August 12th and it was very quiet. There were no other campers on either side of me or in front, however it appeared more people starting coming in on Wed night.

For Fort Custer Recreation Area: Very nice campground. Well maintained and clean rustic state park. There were showers and a dump station. Nicely wooded, semi secluded sites, paved roads with dirt/gravel sites.

For Fort Custer Recreation Area: Very Nice park. Large sites with many very private / wooded. Nice trails through the woods, color coding is a little confusing. Showers are private, with Great water pressure.

Beach on lake, great for kids ... Just beware of some locals that have no problem dropping "F" Bombs around kids.

One of our favorites within a 2-4 hour drive of Chicago.
