For Straits State Park: Check-in was easy and the camp staff was very pleasant. The sites in the lower area are packed in really tight. Our neighbors and the people in the site across from us had to move their trucks so we could access our site. You can’t hitch your trailer up without blocking the road. Some road noise from the nearby bridge. The sites are grass—in surprisingly good shape. We did not use any of the facilities. Verizon coverage—two bars. Ok if you don’t mind having to unhitch but no view from most of the sites.

For Straits State Park: I enjoyed my one night stay here on the way up to Pictured Rocks. The sites are mainly in grass and they can be a little tight, but all the cedar trees made it feel remote. Only the sites nearest the lake can directly see the lake, but you can walk to the beach with great views of the bridge. Also, St Ignace is close and would be fun to bike to. I had 3 bars LTE Verizon. Had Electric at site with water fill and dump station at entry. The traffic noise from the freeway wasn’t too bad but I’d recommend picking a site on east side of the campground if possible.

Keith

For Straits State Park: Nice campground. Tho sites were fairly close together it didn’t feel like you were stacked on top of each other. Lots to do in the area right from camp and great views of the bridge. We did Mackinac Island while there and really enjoyed that. No issues when checking in and good directions to our site. Would stay here again.

For Straits State Park: Large park, camped with our small trailer in the lower loop. Spot was somewhat muddy as were several. We did see some sites with gravel in the upper loop. Our fire pit was full of trash when we arrived- not cool. Our site fairly level. We were in the center where spacing was a bit tight. Get a site on the outer loop if you can. Great views of the bridge, so pretty at night. The campground conveniently close to a grocery store and town. We rode our bikes to the ferry and did the island ride. Very fun. Unlike our state seems you can have multiple tents and vehicles at a site, so we’re some tent cities. Nice restroom and showers.

Kachen

For Straits State Park: This is an ok campground. We stayed in site 9 on the east side, a site limited to rigs up to 35’. Many sites in this campground have size limitations. If you get a site right on the water - if your rig fits - that looks very cool. But the lake is rising and cutting into the shore, in wet weather that might not be fun. You can see Big Mac from the park and again, that’s cool, but you also hear some traffic. Crowded, but useful if you want to go to Mackinaw Island, only a few minutes drive to the St Ifnace ferry dock.

For Straits State Park: If you arrive when there’s no one in the office and you have to self register, the process is a joke! A terrible joke not a funny one. You drive around the campground and pick your spot then go back to the empty office and pick up the yellow phone and speak to a person who will then register you. You must hope that you did not select an ADA site. It’s a mystery because they are not marked to let you know they are ADA. If you do by mistake pick one of those you must go back down and pick out another site. Then go back up to the yellow phone and try to finish your registration. We initially picked #18 because it looked level. We found out when we tried to register at the yellow phone that it is an ADA site. I have no idea why because it is not close to the restrooms, there is no path or walkway connecting it to the restrooms, and it is a loose gravel site. A disabled person that is in this site will have to roll their wheelchair or their walker up a hill and around a corner to get to the restrooms. Pushing a wheelchair through gravel is harder than pushing it through grass, I speak from experience. This should not be an ADA site for safety reasons. It wouldn’t take much to put a blue and white circle or the standard handicap placard sign by any ADA sites so people would know. Aside from the sign-in and registration fiasco, the sites are not very level and they seem to be rather wet. The few sites that are waterfront are boondocking so there is no service there. The rest of the sites are electric only. If you don’t mind leveling your rig and you don’t mind a squishy site this place will be fine. We won’t be back. There are other campgrounds to choose from.

Xtrarays

For Straits State Park: Spent one night during travels in UP. Sites are grassy - muddy when wet - and not all level. Bugs were bad at dusk - a little surprising with air temps in 50's daytime and low 40's overnight - but that comes with the water. Our site was lower area near water far western area closest to bridge so there is some road noise (truck engine brake) from I 75. Also near service / maintenance area for bridge with some kind of generator going on and off thru the day and night. Positives are it is scenic near the water and bridge. Bathrooms are very new and clean.
