For Pecos Mesquite - Sumner Lake State Park: Very pretty campground with large gravel sites on a bluff overlooking the lake. Each parking spot is wide enough for two trailers and omg enough to not unhook. Each has either a concrete Ramada for the picnic table or an awning. The sites are close together. There are absolutely no lights in the campground at night, so seeing the moon and stars is nice. The only drawback is it is a long hike to the bathrooms/showers, which are old, but clean. We had 3 bars of ATT LTE.

For Pecos Mesquite - Sumner Lake State Park: Stopped for one night on way home. For only $14 per night for electric and water hookups, it wasn’t a bad deal but I wish ranger had told us dump station was closed. Also sheltered picnic table area was dirty inside and needed cleaning. But for $14 on a hot day it was a bargain. It was a pretty park with the New Mexico landscape.

For Pecos Mesquite - Sumner Lake State Park: Stayed in the Pacos section since the others were closed. Good pull through and 3 sided shelter which I needed because of the high wind. Best lake I’ve seen in NM. You can fish and there is a short trail to hike. It would be a better campground in warm weather but more crowded.

Denise

For Pecos Mesquite - Sumner Lake State Park: This is a very nice campground with an amazingly helpful Camp Host...but....today is 10/27 and half of the campground is closed off, thus there are only about 10 developed sites with power and, of course, all are full. The helpful Host allowed us and 2 other rigs to use the Group site, or we could have gone down closer to the water and “boondock”. Now why offer a campground “all year”, but close off half of it, and not update your reservation site to show that those camps are “unavailable”? - all the closed sites said “W”. Pretty disappointing as this is really a beautiful campground with great facilities.👍to the Camp Host, though.

Wandering Sandals

For Pecos Mesquite - Sumner Lake State Park: We overnight at this park primitive site next to Sumner Lake for a mere $8/night. Granted, only few leveled primitive sites, most sites are on uneven and sloppy grassy tent/RV pad, or flat rocky sites all overlooking the blue Sumner Lake. Shaded trees are hard to come by, but we quickly found our favorite spot over looking the lake and tall tree provides afternoon shade. Combo bathroom near visitor center (center was closed during our visit so we paid the iron ranger instead) provide clean toilets and hot free showers keeping us civilized. Half dozen electric & water sites are further away from the lake but provide leveled and graveled back-in RV pads for around $14/night. More than dozen lean-to shelters that shaded a picnic table and a grill that runs about $10/night. A bit windy in the afternoon through late night. Overall, this state park is very scenic and camping price are great! We’ll definitely stay here again on our way back.
