For Spearfish City Campground: We usually only like to stay in State Parks or Nat’l Parks or even dispersed camping, but when we found this gem of a place with beautiful bike and walking trails near town we were amazed. The first night we camped with full hook-ups near other RVs but then we switched over to the primitive sites near a little creek. It was so peaceful and beautiful, we stayed 3 nights instead of 1. The Fish Hatchery which is practically in the campground, is more than just looking at some trout in a pond. It had the most beautiful grounds with bird feeders interesting fountains, and historic structures with volunteers that will tell about the history.

For Spearfish City Campground: The people who work here were extremely friendly and so were the other campers. We happened to be here during one of their busiest weekends and couldn’t believe how nice and civilized everyone was to each other. The campsites were beautiful. We stayed in primitive camping and had lots of room in our van. We walked to town, the park , the fish hatchery ( beautiful and interesting) and the nature walk. Awesome!

For Spearfish City Campground: I get so friends with reviews on this site! 5 stars means excellent and this is definitely NOT an excellent campground. Yes, park itself is nice with a walking and biking path. It is close to downtown with nice restaurants. However, the sites are VERY close together. The site next to us their picnic table was right under our kitchen/dining windows. Hookups are at the back of sites so you are back to back with RVs. Some sites share driveways. With all the vehicles and big trucks it looks like a used car lot! Restrooms were clean. Wifi only works at the office.

For Spearfish City Campground: This campground is not closed for the season. On Oct. 1 it goes into offseason mode. There is no water at sites and bathrooms are closed. Electric sites become $10 a night. Make reservations on website
