For Mckinney Falls State Park: Really great state park, close enough to Uber/Lyft into Austin. The sites are spacious and lots of great, well-kept hiking trails. Only disappointment was that there was a ton of litter in the falls. That says more about who’s visiting though than the park’s maintenance. We really enjoyed our stay, would definitely go back.

For Mckinney Falls State Park: This place is difficult to rate, it seriously is. It is located close to Austin as in 10-miles to the Capitol Building and even closer to the airport. It is a beautiful setting. The public spaces are kept clean and mowed. Now for the downside. 1. The park does a poor job of keeping trees trimmed so that your RV is constantly being rubbed by trees and brush. Tree limbs hit the roof as well as side trees and shrubs scrape the sides. If you are in a full body paint Class A motorhome that is a NEGATIVE. Of course it does not bother, TT's, Van Campers, pop-ups, and tent campers. It may or may not be an issue for 5th wheels. You can not pull into your site until 3pm check in time even if the site is vacant. You have to sit in a waiting area. It was raining when we were there and while there was a no vacancy sign at the gate possibly 50% of the sites were VACANT. It seems that the vast majority of their campers are locals and just do not show up when they have reservations and it rains. Weekend Warriors only camp for a few days, if it is raining they just stay home and pay for the site they do not intend to use.....but the campground can not give you the site, for the same reason a hotel can not give the keys to your room to someone else, even if you are not there. State Park campgrounds are cheap, so cheap, that folks make reservations in case they want to have a spot. Sad, but it is a sign of the times.

For Mckinney Falls State Park: Come to Austin often, usually includes a pick up or drop off at airport. This park could not be better located to get to airport and then to UT. Most sites are shady. Been in a bunch of them always Wed, Thur, Fri. Always full starting Friday. Park is busy on weekends. Sites are large, some a little unlevel but not bad. Was last in site 55. Great site, time before that in site 1. Another good site. Both back in and pull thru. Reservation system has been updated for most all of the State Parks. You register on line, see availability and pick your site. Works really well. Falls are nice, trails are good. Dump station is good. Park office employees are super nice. Gate locks at 10pm. Get the code when you pull in or call and get it if coming in after 10. Best location for South Austin and UT.

For Mckinney Falls State Park: Gate closes at 10, but campers are provided a code to get in. Good, level sites. Was there in January, the falls were flowing and the 2.3 mile hike was nice.

Love to travel

For Mckinney Falls State Park: Pretty park, I really liked it. We were in #11, quite a bit of sun. Many sites are beautiful and shady. Our visit was in March, so we enjoyed cool weather. The bluebonnets were blooming and they were beautiful. The creek and waterfalls were flowing nicely. There are nice hikes. The bathrooms are on the old/plain side, but ok. Austin is very close, but with the road construction going to town is stressful. We rode the bike trail along the river in town, nice!
