For Claytor Lake State Park: This park has a lot to offer. Large sites, many offering a bit more privacy than the usual shoulder-to-shoulder, a marina, boat launch, fishing piers, trails, and close to other points of interest. The entire park is very clean, including the restrooms. The camp host is always working, accessible, and visible. The entry contact station is always staffed and the two park stores have many items and friendly staff. I can’t find any negative critiques here. Be sure to plan a Friday evening visit to Floyd County. If you’re a musician, bring your instrument and join in the free entertainment.

For Claytor Lake State Park: Stop for one night on our way back home having read the good comments. It is quiet, not far from I-81, well organized and maintained. All good comments are well deserved. Will be back for sure.

For Claytor Lake State Park: Stayed the first open weekend of the year (first weekend in March) and found the campground to be in great shape. Nice large and level site (D12) with plenty of privacy. I had also read that water was not available in March, due to potential freezing. However, we found out that last year they changed that and had started turning the water and asking guests to just remove their water hookup if it gets below freezing. Overall, a great experience, although it might be considered on the pricey side ($42/night).

Christmas

For Claytor Lake State Park: Enjoyed walking on their trails. Some are paved and some are dirt but all are enjoyable. The Lake was looked enjoyable but my kayak and canoe are 2,500 miles away so I didn't get to try out the lake. Did feel that it was on the expensive side of a state park. About 1/2 of the sites are site specific. The way I understand it is that these sites are reservable the other sites you can select which site you want when you get here. The site specific are more expensive. You should check on this feature. The cell phone service for AT&T and T-Mobile were very limited. They said they had WiFi at one of the building, but when we checked with the ranger they said they didn't have WiFi yet. We have a portable Dish satellite and were able to get some of their satellites on site 15. Most of the RV sites are parallel to each other but they do have a some space between the sites. The shower area looked nice. They did have a sink to clean dishes behind the bathhouse.

We did drive around the park. They do have some very nice cabins and a campground area for tents.
