For Smith Mountain Lake State Park: I would give this place a 4.5. Host was very nice! There are rangers driving by all times of the day. Very spacious and clean campsites. If you get the 12-15 pulls throughs they’re basically a hill so watch your tail on the way up/down. Also the camp is on the opposite side. 38 looked to be the best pull through. The tent sites look really nice and level. We did have very low signal for AT&T, TMobile and Verizon. I wish the campground road was paved and I wish it had more spaces because the area is beautiful!

For Smith Mountain Lake State Park: Really enjoyed our stay at Smith Mountain Lake State Park. The area is beautiful and on one of the prettiest lakes in the Mid Atlantic. The campground was clean and well maintained. There was a combination of pull through and back in sites for RV’s and a separate area for tents. The bath house and bathrooms were clean and well stocked. The rangers were great during the check in and we were welcomed by the camp hosts while setting up. Sites are relatively level and have a gravel base. Each has its own fire ring and picnic table. The campground is a short distance from the water. There are trails to hike to get there. The beach area is a short drive or bike ride away. It was early in the season, so it wasn’t overly crowded at all. We will be back soon.

For Smith Mountain Lake State Park: I stayed in site 1, the first site highest on the hill. It had excellent Verizon coverage, as I think did several other sites. Most site are pick upon arrival with some pre-assigned. As others have mentioned, it is not within view of the lake. The sites are widely spaced and extremely nice. My checkin experience, however, was not nice. The person who checked me in took almost 45 minutes to complete the process while engaging in a variety of other activities including a prolonged discussion with coworkers about how best to wash and dry your hair. I was very ill and wanted nothing more than to lay down, which she knew, and she sat there talking about washing her hair.

Stuart

For Smith Mountain Lake State Park: Most sites nice, level. Cannot reserve Specific site , will change that 2018. Campground nice, clean. Cannot see lake. Swim beach and launch are only water access, is a mile drive. No place to fish, play w dog in water, kids. If you don't hAve boat or like to hike no point to go.

Zach

For Smith Mountain Lake State Park: This is a heavily used state park and there are times it really shows. The bath house is adequate and clean. The sites are large and level which is great especially when you consider the slope the campground is located on.
