For Sherman Pass Overlook Campground: This one is a gem to find. As previously reported, small but private. Mid-June it was 97 in Republic but 82 in the late afternoon. Totally great sleeping weather and gentle occasional breezes through the trees. A few drive throughs looking but we were the only ones there overnight. #6 was our favorite with sweeping views surrounding the back site area, as well as the most level too. Cell coverage near the turnoff into the site, but not in the camping area (VZ)

For Sherman Pass Overlook Campground: A very small but attractive campground in a beautiful forest setting. As of July 2019, 2 of the 9 camp sites are officially blocked off from access and use (a reason is not posted at the campground). This leaves only 7 useable sites, but since the campground appears little used that might not be a problem. The sites are down a short gravel road from the adjacent day use forest interpretive trail and parking area. The terrain slopes away from the highway so traffic noise from the highway is not bothersome in the campground. The sites are probably wshort and narrow by some people’s standards, but they are ample for car, tent or pickup/camper use. They are mostly level and moderately private. The campground is at about 5,200 feet elevation so can be cool at night even in summer. The location provides easy access to the nearby trails extending both north and south of the highway. This can be a good base camp from which to explore a large area by trails or cross country, as long as you remember there’s no official water source in or near the campground and plan accordingly.
