Sherwood B Nice

For Dam Site Resort & Marina: The rare campground has character. Most are just cookie-cutter flat spots, often crowded with permanents. Damsite has a wonderful feel. Overlooking a large reservoir in the desert Southwest on the Rio Grande, it was first built by the Civilian Conservation Corps nearly 100 years ago. Picnic tables, benches, fireplaces, all made from stone. A lodge, 16 adobe cabins, a marina, few streetlights, it is simply magnificent. Paved roads, gravel sites, a museum-gift shop, a soon-to-be-repaired restaurant, the campground sits hundreds of feet above a desert lake canyon with a central grassy lawn and an attentive but not intrusive staff. The downsides? The utilities are scattered about, functional but in odd locations. Money has been allocated to renovate the sites and utilities. Narrow winding access roads. Overall, a peaceful, beautiful place to stay.

Brad

For Dam Site Resort & Marina: Great views of the Rio Grande River. The place is quiet, and except for the camp hosts we had it all to ourselves. However, the park is not set up for more than one or two big rigs because many of the big spots are occupied by permanent rigs (decks, skirting around the RV etc.) The roads into the park are tight and the trees hang low (broke some branches on my roof). We went in late Jan; we were the only people that were not permanent. And of the RVs that are permanent, there weren't many people. As a result of low usage (or perhaps it is just bad pipes though), the water was brown with rust or dirt even after we ran the water for a considerable amount of time. Additionally, the park was built by the state some time ago and the hookups are somewhat scattered. There is a random sewer connection on the door side of our spot, and our power pole powers the site on the service side of our rig (their door side). On the plus side, it looks like the owners are trying to fix the place up which is good. Don't know if I would return, but there aren't many full hook-up sites on the river and lake near Truth Or Consequences, NM.
