For Old Prairie/Palmetto Ridge - Myakka River State Park: There are two campgrounds across from each other. Old Prairie is old with sand sites and roads, no sewer and older but clean restrooms. Palmetto Ridge is new with paved sites and roads, a new restroom and sewer hookups. They are not equal. That being said, we camped in Old Prairie. It was old Florida and actually very nice. Cell service was adequate and it was quiet and very dark at night. They had some nice trails in the park but you need to drive there from the campground unless you want to add several miles to you hikes. Super nice people on staff. Some areas are off limits due to hurricane damage. They hopefully can get things back soon.

Dennis

For Old Prairie/Palmetto Ridge - Myakka River State Park: Very large sites with privacy (Palmetto Ridge) and full hook-ups. We camped in a 35 ft fifth wheel and had no trouble navigating the park. Saw some 45 ft Class A Rigs in a few pull through sites. Verizon cell coverage 3 bars at site and all the way to the concession area. Over the air TV found 49 stations. Paved roads for biking (7 miles). Bathrooms were very clean but hot/no AC. Very few campers during the week but I suspect it’s full on the weekends. We stayed five nights. Only problem we had was the morning we checked out we lost water pressure. It was out for all sites, no idea why. Saw lots of critters, alligators, raccoons, and even a wild hog. Close to beaches. Had a great lunch at Walt’s Fish Market Restaurant and Tiki bar in Sarasota. Would definitely stay again!

Parker

For Old Prairie/Palmetto Ridge - Myakka River State Park: Loved the paved road for bicycling. Canopy trail was also unique and fun. Lots of wildlife. stayed in Big Flats Campground which was older but quiet and adequate. Long way to dump tanks if needed but fortunately we did not as we were only there for 2 nights. There was a newer campground Palmetto Ridge closer to entrance and dump station. No cell service to speak of except on top of canopy trail! Stayed mid February
