![]() There are many places where firearms are prohibited no matter what state you are in or what license you may have. Federal Buildings Do not carry into any Federal buildings. These include post offices, courthouses and government type buildings. This usually stretches to the property boundaries as well. Park your RV or vehicle down the street if you have something with you. Military Installations Visitors can not carry firearms onto military bases. You may or may not be allowed to even have it in your vehicle. Search and seizure laws are different with the military than state and local laws. Because we list military campgrounds and recreation areas at AllStays, you should know that it may be best to avoid these places if you are carrying. Or at the very least, check first. Educational Facilities It is not allowed to carry a weapon onto any kind of school property in most states. Federal law prohibits possession within a thousand feet or any primary or secondary school. If in doubt, stay away from schools. You may be near one without even realizing it at first. Usually concealed carry permits from within that same state as the school will allow for exemption. And perhaps if you have the firearm unloaded and inside locked containers inside a locked vehicle. Again, check first or it be best to avoid these places. Additional Places Any establishment that is primarily there to sell alcohol. Law offices, health care and child care offices, sporting events, voting places and any other type of government office. National Parks and Forests The details of these places are changing lately with the political winds. Always expect them to change again and assume the side of caution. This means keeping your firearm unloaded, cased and locked in a place not accessible by occupants. Keep it hidden. Any loaded or visible firearm can be taken away from you by park officials. It is illegal. Concealed permits do not gain you anything in the Parks. National Forests go with the state law. If you can carry in the state, you can carry in the Forests. If it is illegal in the state, it is illegal in the Forests. Indian Reservations Indian reservations have different laws than the state. They are usually more strict. Because the laws are vague and can change without even notifying local or state law enforcement, it is best to avoid them altogether. Your concealed carry permit is not valid on Indian reservation land. If you find yourself on Indian roads or at a gaming establishment or casino, it is best to have your firearm unloaded and locked in a case that at least goes with the McClure-Volkmer Act. Please read that link if you haven't already. This act allows you to be moving forward through an area from one state to another. But good luck proving that being in the casino is an emergency stop on your journey. Disclaimer This article should not be used or considered legal advice at all.
