This is a pretty nice military RV park, but also the most expensive we have stayed at this far ($70 per night). The location is great, adjacent to the Naval Postgraduate School and its golf course. Handy to all the Monterey attractions and base amenities at the school. The spaces are mostly back-in and mostly level, with FHU, but the park layout overall is small, with spaces tight together. We had our four-night stay disrupted by two things: an all-day scheduled power outage caused by local construction, and a day-long outage of the spotless bathrooms and free laundry owing to a plumbing problem. The staff was friendly and helpful, but frankly we expected a little better for the money.

1. Park Quality - The park is pretty well maintained. Laundry and bathrooms are cleaned daily. The laundry is free and works well. As with much of the surrounding area, it’s mostly sand with very little dirt. One area that needs significant attention is the “grassy” areas. Scruffy and overgrown with lots of gopher activity.
2. Sites - Most sites are concrete pads with W/S/E. (There are a few sites with no sewer and a few sites that are dirt/gravel) The sites seem to be fairly level left to right but the front to back is a crap shoot. There are some sites that have a severe slope while others are almost level. I’d recommend you have plenty of leveling blocks just in case you get one of the severely sloped sites. Also, this may be a bigger issue for Class A/B/C’s than travel trailers or fifth wheels. Also, some sites are very narrow, barely allowing for stairs to be deployed, while others are almost double wide. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table but depending on your site, it may be in a poor location for your use. I was in site #26 and I could deploy my steps but not much room for anything else. My picnic table and fire pit were behind and opposite to my door opening. Really in a location that made it unfriendly to use. (throw in the gopher mounds and it only added to the lack of desirability to use the area.)
3. Location - The location is stellar! So much to do in the Monterey area. Of course for golfers, you’re right next to the golf course but also 20 minutes from other world class golf.
4. Noise - There is the Monterey airport right next door, and this could be an issue for some. If you’re a light sleeper I recommend a white noise machine. The flights don’t go all night but they do go late and start very early. (5 am was a normal departure for the first plane but pretty quiet after that for hours)
5. Cell Service - Verizon was two bars of 5G
6. WiFi - Park WiFi was clocked at 12 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up. I have T-Mobile 5G Gateway and it was 265 Mbps to 437 Mbps down (depending on time of day) and 4 Mbps to 10 Mbps up, again depending on time of day.
7. Rates - $70 plus $1 a day for a dog. (which I think is totally stupid.)
8. Access - Of course you need to be a qualified person to make a reservation but there is no gate restricting access to the golf course or park. Very easy parking right in front of the clubhouse for check in.
Wrapping it up. I’ll be returning at some point in the future as this is a great park in one of the prettiest locations on the west coast. There were some reviews (can’t remember which site) that mentioned “stickers/thorns” but I didn’t see any and my dog didn’t experience any either. Water pressure was also mentioned but I had no issue with this, my water pressure is set at 45 psi and that is where it stayed.

The only reason I’m giving it a one star is because I never got a chance to stay there back in February. I made a reservation for August. I just checked on my reservation and somebody cancel it and I finally found out who canceled it. It was the assistant manager of the place because my credit card didn’t go through due to probably a missed number put in it so and they didn’t even contact me to re-do it or email me or phone me and they have all that information on file so much for customer service. I believe they need to go to school to learn some manners and customer service.

Unimpressed. Packed into a parking lot in a clump of trees. Spots were tight but level. There must have been a renovation since the last comments. WiFi nice. Bathrooms nice. List of rules long, off putting and laughingly unenforced. Not worth the money in my opinion. Husband wanted to give 3 stars because bathroom was awesome for a “shower and a sh@t”. Sorry I didn’t use it myself so 2 stars it is. Also our truck was hit by a golf ball.

Nice park but it’s turning into a family housing area. Kids driving electric cars up and down the road, into other spaces that’s not theirs. I understand that FamCamp is primarily for active duty and others can use space available, but control your kids. Facilities are very nice, new washers and dryers. Bathrooms are clean Besides the kids very nice park.

Spot 31. Easy access when no one is in spot 28 and 23, straight in pull. The sewer is (again) uphill. The spot is located between two roads so it is wide open. 30amp power is all they have but it’s Monterey. Do not need A/C unless you keep your windows closed. For $60 in Monterey it is what it is.

Monterey is beautiful. However this campground is an after thought. The worst part was the civilian lady manager. I booked a spot about 2 months in advance for a 40 ft MH towing. Checkin time was around 1300. I arrived around noon. I waited in the golf shop for about 30 minutes while the manager was gabbing away in her office with two other women. After they left I kindly knocked on her door and asked her about checking into my reservation. She boldly and rudely said “well aren’t you here early?†I was sort of speechless and said I was driving from SoCal and I’m sorry I might be a bit early. She hesitantly assigned me a spot and I indicated I have a big rig 40 foot and towing. She said they are pretty packed but I should be able to fit in this spot. I went to the spot and unhooked my vehicle and started backing it in. It was extremely tight and I even clipped the light post trying to turn and back it in. The space was not even close to level and I spent a while trying to level the rig and even had to go purchase more blocks to level it. The front of the MH front tires were completely off the ground was how I level this space was. The doorway steps was about 3 feet from the ground and I had to put a bucket to step on to get in and out. This was also our anniversary trip. The manager was driving around in a golf cart the next day and I flagged her down and showed her how I had to set up the rig and kindly asked to move to a more level spot. At least half the campground was empty. She said they are too booked up to move me. We were there for 7 days and the campground continued to be only half full. She is a liar and the worst manager and public relations person they could have hired. I’m retired military with 30 years of service and this is the thanks I get from this insolent human being? She should be removed from any contact with customers. She is the worst.

Spot #29. Second time at Monterey Pines and we still really enjoy the location. Even though spot #29 requires some extraordinary talent at backing into if an RV is in the spot across, and you are going to use all the boards left behind by other campers to attempt to level your rig. And the sewer is uphill. Other then that we love this place. Wi-Fi is good, close to town and activities. Good laundry facilities and awesome host!
