We stayed in Spot 8 which is on a cul-de-sac. It has a nice view of the creek bed although it was dry during our stay. Our spot was reasonable level (some spot appear to be a challenge but if you have a trailer vs motorhome, most spot should be fine). There is not much shade but in December, that was just fine. If your RV is small, consider spot 47 or 46 as it seems to be the only spots with shade in the pm from couple of beautiful oak trees. The trails were very nice and reasonable well marked. We hiked the old CCC trail which took us to the top of Sky drive. The views were definitely worth the hike. Of counse one could take a car up there but whats the fun in that.
Park staff was very nice and helpful. Some do not seem to appreciate dogs which is a little strange. There was a fair amount of dog waste ( perhaps why staff is not fond of dogs) which is unfortunate. We were also surprised by the lack of wildlife but that could be the time of year. There were plenty of doves, woodpeckers and a few deer.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this park.

When we got to this park, there was no cell phone signal for Verizon or T-Mobile. These sites were spacious but very unusual. The RV was parked level, but down below our tow vehicle by about a foot. The Park focus a lot on viewing birds and wildlife plus the history of the park was very interesting as we learned about the CCC contributions during the Great Depression. There was a guided star viewing hike available at night. We drove up to an observation point and took lots of pictures down into the valley.

Beautiful park! Stayed in FHU area for two nights. Friendly staff, plenty of trails to hike and a birders paradise. Clean bathouses. WiFi poor and cell service spotty at best.

This is a wonderful state park. Our second visit here, we opted to stay in the same site. Full hookup, pull through in an “eyebrowâ€. Covered concrete patio. VERY limited cell service. But you can drive to the top of the scenic viewpoint and cell service available there. Quiet and dark skies. Good walking on pavement and gravel. The grassy areas are full of goatheads, much to our dogs dismay. Javelinas roam freely, we saw them both at night and during the day. The park restaurant is very good. Check out the winery between Ft Davis and Marfa. We enjoyed lunch there from a food truck as well as their wines.

Quiet sites with full hook-ups. Neat overlook you can drive up too. Free WiFi available at entrance.

Gloriously beautiful. Large sites. Great trails and a restaurant. Good rest rooms. One of our fav of state parks!

We spent a night there after three months host camping at Chisos Basin. Many full hook ups; pull throughs also for larger coaches. Nice bird watching area. Bathrooms are functional but could be cleaner.

Our first stop in Texas after traveling through CA, NV, AZ and NM.
Dissapointment compared to state parks in the other states. Sites are too close to other campers and noise from the roads within the park. Not a secluded restful spot compared to our other experiences. At 8:30 am someone drove up to remind me to check in at the office where I paid a park entrance fee in addition to camp reservation few I paid online a few weeks ago when I made the reservations. Hope the future spots in Texas are better.

The campground is in a canyon as mentioned b4 with no cell service (ATT) and others. We were given a pull through spot with full hook ups which was to short for class A 38’.
The other issue is that the sites in the full hook loop all point up and downslope with a short interval that is almost flat. Our site had the front of the coach point uphill and in our class A only the rear wheels lock when parked. Moved to another site and pointed the front downhill but again, not a long enough flat spot. We have on wheel in the air and the guy behind us has both front wheels up. Our sewer connection is uphill a bit on this site and the previous site we tried. Everything is bigger in Texas but not the sites at this CG; for $25/night plus a $6/person park fee this place should be much better!

Staff was efficient and helpful at check in. Site was good , lots of space, trees and views. Facilities were clean and well maintained. Slow WiFi at the nature center. No Verizon at camp site, drive up the vista road and you get 4 bars LTE. McDonald Observatory, Fort Davis historic site, scenic drive, other activities in the area. The historic lodge is being renovated, expect completion in June 2018. We would stay again.
