My wife and I are the Camp Host Ambassadors for this USFS camping area. The location is directly east of the entire front range of the Grand Tetons and the views (when no smoke from western wildfires) are amazing! In season May through Labor Day campers can enjoy a total of five free nights camping, after Labor Day its 14 free nights. There is NO dispersed camping it’s ALL designated camping - you must find your own empty campsite with a sign and number on the site. If you’re not on a numbered site you are illegal camping and will possibly be fined and asked to leave. There are approximately 20 sites within the three loops at the bottom and 39 up along the mountain road. The road to the summit from the south entrance is pretty good (graded in early 2021) but going up/down the North entrance is very rough use with caution and with high clearance vehicles and 4x4 if wet or snowy. Coolers not allowed “out†ever due to food storage concerns to keep bears safe. There are grizzly and black bears in the area. Please set your expectations prior to arrival - this is FREE camping provided by the USFS on your public lands. No water, trash disposal or electricity- vault toilets at the lower loops only. When coming here be sure to only arrive by via Gros Ventre Road/Shadow Mountain Road or via Antelope Flats Road passing Mormon Row to Shadow Mountain Road. Other routes will be nearly impossible and beyond frustrating due to road conditions and no signage. The views are awesome sites vary in size but huge RV’s larger than 30’ will find it very limiting. Get here no later than 10am to grab the open sites. Hope to meet you and we’ll try to help you find a spot! Chris & Liz

There is an area for RV/larger vehicle at the bottom, the road to the remote campsites is pretty rough, but most 4x4 vehicles should make it. Great view of the Tetons from a couple of sites.

Take the route in from the south, you can access the bottom sites with no trouble. If you come in from the north and turn early to follow Antelope Flats Road in from above, you'll find yourself on what equates to two deeply rutted tire tracks for several miles. When we arrived it was very crowded and we decided to move on.. The sites are marked making this really a free campground more than truly dispersed camping. The views of the Tetons are great but there are power lines nearby. We would definitely stay here in the off season when it's no so cramped.

Stayed two days. Took left at fork, camped before big clearing. Very rough, but dry road. Pulling 21' Palomini. Visited by horse and ATV. A lot of horseflies!

Great view if you can get in. Do not attempt if road is muddy and you are an RV. When dry, no problem to get to the first area of 6 spots. After that you will need a single high clearance RV to get up the mountain to the other beautiful spots. 5 day MAX stay but not sure it was enforced in June. Verizon and AT&T work with single bars. No services so you need everything with you. Great view of Tetons though. We made it in to the bottom camp ground with 29 foot Class C RV towing a trailer. Had friends the week before with 40 ft trailer and 5th wheel make it into the bottom also. Everyone up on the mountain are in tents or truck popups.
