The first 3 miles or so from 95 is quite washboardy. Like 10-15 mph rough. Once into the KOFA land the road improves a lot. We went to about 6 miles from 95 before stopping at a nice big spot. There continued to be camp sites to within about 1/2 mile of the trailhead and end of the road. As the final road section climbs up to the TH, it gets very washboardy. Not suggested you pull anything up that far. There are no large camping spots that high anyway. 4 stars vs 5 is simply the rough road going and coming. Spent 3 nights in mid-March with very few neighbors, dark skies and quiet. View of the mountains behind us was magnificent.

A peaceful place to dry camp and hike. The hike to the palm viewing area is a simple, gradual half mile climb. For a more majestic view, keep climbing through the canyon, following the rock piles left by previous hikers. More palms can be observed high on the far right side along amazing rock formations and caves.

What a beautiful canyon and nice hike. Camp was nice. Little mice were running up and around our camp fire.
