For Old Shady Rest Campground: We were looking for a FF spot on our way through to Death Valley. Determining if sites were available was incredibly confusing and all 3 of the camp hosts were nowhere to be found. After an hour we decided to take our chances and pull into a spot. Luckily it turned out to be an open spot even though the camp host had a sign up that said no vacancy. His trailer was completely covered by a RV cover and apparently he never comes out. I understand that people are concerned with COVID, but there needs to be a system for questions.
As for the site, it overlooked a trailer park and it wasn’t great. The bathrooms were clean, but very rundown. We did see a bear and heard multiple screams throughout the night so definitely use the bear boxes.
