For Monterey County Fairgrounds: Stayed for five days, the location is the best part of this campground. Close together camping however like I said the location is great for exploring Monterey.

For Monterey County Fairgrounds: Very good location to visit the city and attractions Some airport noise during the day Sites are close together but all is quiet at night We hardly spend anytime at campground so much to see Only negative about the sites are that they are more level Nose Down So be prepared to climb on about 8-10 inches of leveling blocks It was manageable....

For Monterey County Fairgrounds: We stayed here May 2013. This review originally penned at that time.

The Monterey Fairgrounds RV
campground is as centrally located as you are going to get and at a reasonable price. A left turn out the gate and five blocks down Casa Verde gets you to a protected bike path. A two miles bike ride takes you to Cannery Row and The Monterey Bay Aquarium. The campground hosts (May 2013) are very nice. You have the run of the fairgrounds while you stay. There is a single top loading washing machine and a dryer for use besides the restrooms. The restrooms are clean and include a shower. There is wifi connection to the internet. Facility connections, at the back of the sites, are shared between two adjoining campers and include one 30 amp and one 50 amp plug between the two sites. 50 to 30 amp conversion cables are available for use from the host for a deposit. There are some shaded sites available.

Now the caveat:

There is a major dip and a lip on entering the fairgrounds that shows serious gouges in the asphalt and the cement that had to have been made by either heavy excavation equipment or else major dragging of the undercarriages of towed vehicles. I suspect it was the latter as I even scraped going slow and at an angle and I had a high lift installed in my trailer.

It's right next door to a golf course and at the end of the first hole, so golfers have not yet had time to warm up and many hooked balls rain down on the place even though there are anti-bombardment nets here and there. Within an hour of being present four errant golf balls rocketed in and bounced off of things and my wife was almost beaned. Expect dents, broken glass or a stove-in head, depending on your luck, or lack of it. The golf course is open only to the military.

It is also at the end of a runway, luckily a little off angle so that the jet wash isn't directly into the campground. Commercial planes don't fly in the middle of the night but private planes may come and go at any time, ie. 11:20 pm.

There is a real slant on the upper (paved) lot so plan on some serious chocking to level your RV. Getting your tanks to drain on the golf course side can be a challenge.

Sites are assigned, but the hosts are amendable to haggling for something more suited to your taste.

The fairgrounds are closed to RVs during fairs, carnivals, concerts, etc. Check the website for availability.

The wifi is strongest next to the host and decreases in strength with distance.

There is no cable but off air channels are available.
