For Lower Hermosa Campground: Quiet, peaceful place, no electric, water, or dump. The last 1.5 miles of road in is a bit rough but no real problem. Not easy to level up but large sites, great host, very clean toilets.

For Lower Hermosa Campground: Very nice campground. Space between sites allows for privacy. Toilets are clean and convenient. Wish there was water but other than that a great place to stay.

For Lower Hermosa Campground: Passing thru Durango on my way to Telluride. Not to far off 550 and road up is decent. Paved about 1/2 way back and dirt the rest. But fairly smooth. Area was saved for the most part from last years fires but campground in great shape. In a fee area but quite minimal for such a great, peaceful location with the sounds of nature for the most part in the background. Sites have picnic tables and fire rings. Big rigs can easily access this place. Only a few big “fairly level” sites. Plus good cell service too. I’d come back again and stay longer should I get back to the Durango area for a few days.

For Lower Hermosa Campground: This is a great campground except the bathrooms are about a half mile from some of the sites. #12 has the best privacy, but it is really far from the bathrooms. I was there mid-week and it started filling up near the end of the week. This is also a horse campground and they have very nice facilities for that. It is also an open cattle range, so it is not unusual to have cows walking through your camp at night or in the morning, which can be a little unnerving. This is a great campground with large private sites and hiking trails that are very difficult so know your limits before you hike. This is black bear country.
