For South Rim - Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park: We really enjoyed our 2 night stay in July. What an amazing park with so many cool overlooks to see. Our favorite hike was the 1.5 mi RT Warner Point nature trail with Mountain View’s on both sides of the ridge. The campground has good privacy due to all the gambel oaks (lots of birds :), but the gravel sites will need some leveling. Seeing the Milky Way at night was really special. We didn’t have any cell service in the campground but there was a spot with 2 bars ~ 1 mile before the park entrance.

For South Rim - Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park: The plus is you are inside the park . Campsite are kind of small and uneven . We have a 36’ RV and there are very few sites large enough to fit. Generator usage is prohibited . Loop A and B are dry camp and loop B has power hook up. Camp is cramped and full . Dry camp $16 and hook up $22 . 50% off for senior pass holder. Road to camp good . Cellular Poot AT&T 0 to 1 bar.

For South Rim - Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park: Stayed over Memorial weekend. Loops A and C are small sites best suited to small teardrop trailers and tents. We barely fit in loop A in 21 ft travel trailer. Loop B has electricity and bigger sites for larger RVs. Although sites seem tightly situated, heavy oak growth provides a surprising degree of privacy. No hookups, no generators allowed (of course there’s always that one guy) and water is trucked in so labeled for water bottles only, no filling RVs. Amazing views. As previous reviewer mentioned, trip down east portal road is a must. If you are in shape, hike down to the river! 2000ft vertical and wilderness pass required, of which numbers are limited

For South Rim - Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park: Would have been a 5 star except no water hook-up. I really liked this campground. Good spacing. Lot of vegetation between sites. Great location. Night sky was cool. There were only 4 other campers on loop B so I don’t know what it would be like full. No cellular service but you can get some a little way back towards town at a pull-off. There is a pay phone at the check in station if you need it. Cedar Point is the best overlook. Lots of wildflowers.

For South Rim - Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park: About what you’d expect from a national park campground, and it turned out to be completely free in the winter/off season as an added treat! (stayed in late October)

Simon

For South Rim - Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park: Very nice and a lot of sites secluded. Electric only in loop C. Located in the scrub oak forest and could barely see neighbors in sight 19. 1 mile hike to the visitor center on a very nice trail. Limited amount of water mostly to refill drinking water in a water bottle so come loaded with water. No dump station available but can dump in Montrose at KOA for $10 or free if available at the fairgrounds.

For South Rim - Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park: We were looking for a CG that would be convenient to exploring the Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP and would have electric since morning temps were forecasted to be in the 20's. We're self-contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed mid-week in mid-October in our 25 foot MH. This is a pleasant campground near the Visitor Center and central to all South Rim activity. There are 3 loops in a forest of tall shrubs. Sites are similar in each loop. B loop has electric. Loop C is first come first serve. Water is not available after temps drop below freezing. Limited water is available in summer - plan to arrive with water. There is no dump station. There is one in Montrose which we did not use. We stayed in loop B. Most of the sites are back in with a few pull overs. The CG map denotes S, M and L sites. Sites are dirt and most need some leveling. The shrubs provide some privacy. There's no wifi and no cell coverage in the CG. The nearest ATT and Verizon signals are at Sunset View and along HYY 347. The Rim Trail leaves from loop C and is a mile to the Visitor Center where there are rangers to answer questions, an exhibit/movie and short trails to viewpoints. The Scenic Drive is 6 miles with 12 viewpoints. There is river access for vehicles <20 feet at East Portal. Montrose is 14 miles away with all services.
