For Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park: It all depends on what you’re looking for. This place is really out there. Relaxing is a good word. The trails are walks through the prairie or on dirt roads. Night is pretty cool. We watched the space station fly by. Great place to see it. Moon was full so it was so bright it kind of masked the stars. They have a prairie buggy that runs on the weekend. Don’t miss this if possible. Get an early reservation. They had to cancel during our visit because they didn’t have guides. Be sure to take plenty of provisions. You’re an hour from a grocery store.

For Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park: Very remote relaxing quiet setting, with everyone cognizant of their light pollution. Great place to watch the stars. Probably the cleanest nicest bathrooms and showers I’ve seen in a state park! Will come again.

For Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park: This park is a wonderful place. Stayed eight nights and really enjoyed ourselves. Vast expanses of prairie, birds and wildlife, peace and quiet, dark night skies. All parks should be so conscientious about light pollution. Our only caution would be not to take the park’s claim to having 100 miles of hiking, biking, horseback trails at face value. We found only two trails passable on our hybrid bikes and both were arduous due to rough surfaces. Neither trail made a very long ride. Most of the trail miles involve soft sand, rugged surfaces and stretches that are under water much of the time. Many trails are regularly plowed for fire breaks. Unless you’re a hard core fat tire enthusiast, you won’t be biking all that much. Still in all, this is a great place.

For Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park: What a gem! Last 5 miles or so were a little bumpy but take it slow and it’s not bad, well worth it to stay! Make sure you have everything you need, nothing very close. Wish all the parks would use red lighting. Laundry and bathrooms very clean. Hope to visit again!

Wandering Buffalos

For Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park: Real Florida hidden gem is the Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park. Since it is large preserve; plenty of animals roaming around our campsite; deers, turkeys, crested caracara, as well as many alligators lurking in the swamps. We stayed few days at shaded partial hookup site#3 and wish that we could stay longer... says 14 days? Price is reasonable at $17/day. Clean and functional bathroom regularly maintain by friendly camp hosts. Coin-op washer and dryer is near the bathroom. Dump station is at the exit but we have to make weird clockwise turn to reach it! On the way in, our GPS given us bunch of dirt and grassy roads to get to campground, but really... we could’ve go north on asphalted NW 192nd ave all the way to park entrance, then short dirt road to campsite check-in office. Roads around the campsites are all hard packed sand and clay, will form puddles after the rain. Our site was not even, so few minutes leveling our trailers and all is good. Since the preserve is in the middle out-of-nowhere, occasional wind is brutal, it will pickup your anchored tent and tosses it to next site. Foods, supplies, and even small cafe about 30mins just follow hand painted sign. Folks here have hard life, so it reflects in their no none sense demeanor together with quick and curtly responses that we found endearing. Will we come back to this campsite? Definitely.

For Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park: Out in the middle of no were. Very similar to Pains prairie. Real hot so bring plenty of water. We biked all over the place. But when say that a trail might have water up to your waist, you need to believe them. We pushed our luck and ended up trucking through about a half mile of swamp. The trail literally disapeared into a swamp. It was real scary trucking through this stuff just after seeing aligators a littler earlier. It wore us out but we still liked the park over all. Nice camp host and volunteers.
