For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: Awesome base, very well maintained by friendly effective staff. Does have some mosquitos tho. Top notch place all in all.

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: They take limited reservations one year out and expect lots of snowbirds. All the reserved spots were full. The rest of the spaces are first come, first served. Don’t expect to get full hook-ups. We were in partial for a couple of days and had to negotiate to get full hook- ups. We were told that the rules were such that we would be required to go to dry camp after two weeks, then partial hook-ups for 2 weeks before being allowed to go back to full hook-ups again. We elected to leave after 2 weeks. MacDill is a beautiful base with a well-stocked commissary and Exchange. The campground is a 10 minute drive from the commissary and front gate. There is no diesel fuel for sale on the base. Expect to hear reveille at 6:00 am, a siren at noon, colors at 5:00 pm and taps at 10:00 pm. Also expect to hear gunfire from the nearby range. And bring mosquito repellent.

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: Great beach, laundry and sunsets. Quiet, except revillie at 0530 :). Sites a bit tight, but not unbearable at all. Anyone entering via BayShore Drive or MacDill Road will encounter very low hanging branches. Take main gate and even though the far right lane seems closed, it’s definitely where you are required to enter.

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: Great location. Staff was very helpful and nice.. it's a shame they dont have a nicer building to work in. Looks like a construction site. Out the way. Not a lot of aircraft noise. But..Needs to be updated a little.. not going to list things like I'm a mad rver.. but it could use a touch up. And them masqito... woah!!!.. could not set up camp fast enough... might have to cut my time short here..

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: The place is great and as far away from everything. Getting there was fairly easy after getting instructions from the gate. You can only come in from the main gate. Just FYI no reservations are accepted, it’s first come first serve. I gave it four stars because there was a mosquito problem while there. At 20 bucks a day it’s a great deal. They have several dog parks around.

Kim

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: The two stars are for the location only and maybe for some of the amenities on base. But the campground.... I’m not sure what they are thing ! If we hadn’t been put on the curve we wouldn’t have been able to get in our spot. We couldn’t put our awning out due to how close the next camper was, so sitting outside was very uncomfortable. Any time anyone comes or goes your going to hear it. We had to park our truck away from our spot which didn’t make the hubby happy. And Sunday morning before 7:00 am a service came knocking on our door about cleaning the camper. Nice service bad timing! Water hoses leaking all around us, dogs barking everywhere! And no one observing the Leash rule. We took our puppy out on a leash and a woman with a huge dog came at us. No leash. Her dog got tangled up in our leash took our dog down and almost me with it. And she was angry with us. We have Verizon no service there one bar and WiFi is a joke. We won’t come back. Ever !

For Racoons Creek Recreation Area: Stayed one week over Memorial Day weekend. Easy check in process and over half the sites available during the period. Was able to choose our site which was towards the middle. Level site with 2 concrete strips for tires, but no gravel or pavement for about 20-25 feet from road. Full hookups and 30/50 A service. Many stations easy to pickup on antenna. WiFi would never hook up (signal too weak). One central Laundry room for the entire park; it was a wreck, many machines out of order. The ones that worked smelled of mildew and/or full of pet hair. Cost $1.75/wash and 25 cents for 8 minutes of dryer time. Some sections of the park looked a little run down and there seemed to be some full-timers that likely rotated when it was time to move. Registration facility has been “temporary” for five years which is not too impressive. Quiet stay for the most part, decent location. For the park size and programs/amenities (especially during the winter) you figure it would be better ran/managed.
