For Maquoketa Caves State Park: The hiking trails and caves are excellent. I spent a half day or so hiking the area. There is a beautiful picnic area and playground area for the kids. The campground is deeply shaded with oak and mostly pine trees. There is limited privacy but the spots are far enough apart that it's okay. There are many electric pad sites, a few non-electric pad sites and a half dozen or so very private tent camping sites that are 50 feet or more off the parking area. All sites, even the tent sites, have a picnic table and fire ring. Water is available. Although the park states that you must pack out what you bring in, there were a couple of dumpsters available. There is a somewhat modern bathroom/shower house. It was in disrepair and not very clean. The recycle bins were full. They may have had firewood for sale, but the wood bin was empty. I saw several campsites that had enough wood to last them the winter. Several farms on the way were selling firewood. There was a campground host trailer, but they were never there the day I was there or the next morning
