For Carter Caves State Resort Park: Very winding road with some steeper grades to get up to the campground on the plateau area. Just take it slow. Cave tour was great! A lot of family friendly stuff to do. Great park but unfortunately we would not return here. As an interraccial couple it was uncomfortable from the first day. My husband didn’t even want to walk with myself in my daughter just in case someone were to say something. The weekend the entire place fills up with locals. People were friendlier throughout the week but the weekend was a whole other vibe.

For Carter Caves State Resort Park: I agree with the last review. The road up is winding and narrow but if you take your time it’s doable. We are in a 35ft 5th wheel. There is only one dump site for the whole park so it will be busy if you leave on a Sunday. The week was quiet but the weekend exploded with families and kids. They do set out the reservation papers a day or so ahead of time but the camp host was going around several times a day to check on things. There are now 3 sets of washer and driers in the main building. There are also maintenance staff around all day. But they could cut the grass a little more often but it did rain almost every other day we were there.

For Carter Caves State Resort Park: There are really good and really bad features to this park. In the end, I had to rate it in the middle as each factor offsets the other. Cons: maintenance is low. There are many posts with dates and names of campers knocked over and the papers expired. No one seems to change the papers until they have to. Several fire rings were full of garbage. A washer and dryer in the laundry room were broken, leaving only 2 of each to use. BThere are some serious drop offs along the inner roadways if you aren’t careful. The entrance road is narrow and winding but ok if you take it slowly. The campground is older and the signage is worn and sometimes difficult to read. Pros: there are many trees around the campground giving you that outdoor feel you look for in camping. There are picnic tables and fire rings as well as posts at campsites. There is good room between sites. There are lots of thing to do here - pool, stream for boating and kayaking, mini golf, hiking trails, caves to explore, even a horse corral.
