For St Bernard State Park: Park seems like it has potential, but is older & a little run down, though didn’t use any facilities. Those could have been very nice. The problem was with, at least half of the spaces taken up by what looked like homesteaders & long term campers. There were 5 spaces taken up by people, clearly living out of vehicle, & a class A that had been there awhile with tarps, junk, & cinder blocks spread all across their site, those were the ones just within sight of our space. I’m not sure if this is usual or if this is due to people in area losing jobs/homes due to pandemic. We never felt unsafe. Park police & staff patrolled throughout day. Staff was very nice. It is not some place we will return though. Stayed our 2 nights, but wish would’ve just done 1 night.

For St Bernard State Park: We just did 2 nights here while visiting friends, but it was a very positive experience. The area around the camper was all torn up from armadillos! They make a mess. Site was really level. Great location for New Orleans access.

For St Bernard State Park: Wanted to give an updated review - last post was almost a year ago though mostly accurate. We stayed one night at site 9 (due to showing up a day early) and site 33. Wifi seemed to be better at site 33 (wifi antenna @ site 42ish). The spots and roads are very narrow, we have a 29’ airstream and had difficulty getting into site 9, 33 was easier. It is very site dependent due to different angles of the sites. The sites are narrow, not much wider than a truck but very nice and fairly level. The showers have great pressure and hot water (at night), but bathhouse needs some TLC. Ginger at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. Overall, great location and good campground.

For St Bernard State Park: What a great place. Very clean and very quiet. The wi-fi is close to unusable and At&t is also close to unusable. We stayed at
spot 33 and had a good look at the sky for Direct Tv. I would stay here again.

For St Bernard State Park: Great spot. A hint to get here from west without going highway 10. We re in a truck with cab over camper. All and all 24'. We fit on ferry at belle chase. Look up size regs on ferry site. If you fit it s a lot pleasanter trip

Lisa

For St Bernard State Park: This is a small park, easy to get to and conveniently located for visiting New Orleans.
It is mostly quiet (see cons) with very clean bathrooms, laundry ($1 a load-2 washers, 2 dryers) and showers-with lots of hot water except in the morning when everyone else is using them.
Not a lot of hiking trails but walking/running around the campground and the adjacent SplashDown area (open only in warm weather) is a decent workout. There is a nature trail as well.
The sites are well spaced and the ones on the outside of the loop afford more privacy and some are shadier than others which have no shade. Site 13 is right next to the children's playground. Some sites have a depression where the table (on a concrete platform) and fire ring are that look as though they could get quite boggy with a lot of rain. While we were here (early Feb 2018) there was light rain most days with one heavy rainfall and a few sites had a bit of standing water. However, on Mardi Gras weekend there were a number of tent campers and all seemed to find dry areas within their site.
The gate is locked at 9pm and there is a padlock for which you are given a code at registration. The padlock, however, is one where the 4 numbers need to line up and it can be quite finicky. (Hint: have someone hold an umbrella over you with the car lights pointed at the lock if it is raining.)
The only drawback for us was that there is a railroad crossing nearby and the bell seems to clang 24/7. We could not find out if this is normal but it went on for the week we were here. There is also a refinery nearby and if the CAT cracker lets off exhaust it sounds like a large jet plane is taking off in the campground. Luckily this is not a regular or frequent occurrence and it is done during the day. Freight trains do go by but we did not hear any blow their horns during the night, in fact not bothered by them at all.
The CG WiFi is spotty but doable but we had a 3-4 bar ATT signal (boosted) so used our own.
There are 2 supermarkets (Walmart and Breaux Mart close by on 39/Judge Perez Dr -though we found the food selections in both limited.( We had better luck at the Rouse's in town and the Trader Joe in Metairie. There is an EconoMart gas station on 46/St Bernard Hwy that has the lowest gas prices around but check around because we saw 20 cents difference between the various stations.
New Orleans is an easy drive either via 46/39/I-10 or straight down 46 (St Bernard Hwy) which goes right to the visitor center in town.

For St Bernard State Park: This is a very affordable place to stay and see New Orleans. We stayed four nights an were gone all day exploring New Orleans . It rained two days and there was a lot of standing water. I don't think tenting would be possible here (in whatever is their rainy season , I don't know if it's dry in summer) all the ground is low lying and the areas to park are paved and elevated a bit. It was not possible to use the paths through wooded are to get to bathroom by the second day I was there as they were under water. Easy enough on road and all sites were dry as they are elevated. Lucky us, to cold for mosquitos.
