For Carolina Beach State Park: Camped four nights Sun-Wed Mar 24-27, 2024 w/reservations. Lots of availability. Clean, quiet and well maintained; a bit of road noise but in the background. Most sites non-electric and shaded, and perhaps a bit tight for maneuvering bigger rigs. Great hiking trails and home to the Venus Flytrap - a must see rare carnivorous plant that only grows in this area! Boating opportunities available at the onsite marina. Fresh fish available at Blackburn Bros. dockside, about ten minutes away. Miles of beach available at Ft. Fisher about 20 minutes away.

For Carolina Beach State Park: We stayed three nights in March 2023. We stayed in campsite #2 and had full hookups. The site was clean, private, and required very little leveling. This is a beautiful park with many great hiking trails. It appears to be a bird watchers paradise. It is conveniently located to all the urban craziness of Carolina Beach and Wilmington but the urban life does not intrude on the peacefulness of the park (at least in March). We recommend the 15 minute drive to Fort Fisher were you can walk on the beach. Yes, they do lock the gate at night but we are glad they do given its location. They provided two emergency contact numbers to call if need be. The only complaint is that there was only one trash container for 80+ campsites. When we arrived on Tuesday it was overflowing and wasn’t picked up until Friday. Be aware there are only 10 sites with electricity but those are also full hookups. We did not use the bathroom or shower facilities so we can’t comment on those.

For Carolina Beach State Park: First night visiting cousins in town for diner and returned at 9:05pm. Park closed with major padlocks. No phone to call. Boondocked at entrance until 6:30am. Next night my 14yo water dog had vet emergency. Was locked in. No phone to call. Had to call Uber to vet and leave van at entrance Shame on this inconsiderate park host. Never again.

For Carolina Beach State Park: Very conveniently located with much to do nearby. SP campground is reasonably well maintained with the second restroom/shower house to open soon. Although a sign states “campground full” it was not, with multiple amenity-free sites remaining empty during our two day stay. One ding is their pack it in-pack it out policy falls short when the dumpster remains overflowing. That said, very pretty with many short trails available.

For Carolina Beach State Park: In December and January gates are locked at 6:pm, making this less a campground and more a detention center.

For Carolina Beach State Park: Large campsites in wooded area with lots of wildlife. We had full hook-ups and very large site. No wifi and some OTA TV channels. Fire pit and picnic table at each site. Bathhouses were older but very clean.

For Carolina Beach State Park: Nicely spaced sites in the woods. They are in the midst of hooking up the bathhouses to the city sewer system and there are plans to upgrade 8 sites to full hook-up and to build some cabins. This would be a great campground it there were sites with electricity.
