For The Campground at Tom Johnson Camping Center: We have stayed here multiple times over the past 2.5 years varying from 1 week to 1 month. It's worth noting that Tom Johnson's is now Camping World. This is a great place to stay if you need work done on your rig. This is a huge property containing a regular Camping World store and sales lot on the main road, HWY 70 with a Rally park containing over 460 grass sites, most with W/E/S and then another fully paved campground across the street. Also at this location is the massive service center and TJ's Grill serving breakfast and lunch 6 days a week. ALL sites are back in sites and ALL sites are the same size. As with any RV Park there are pros and there are cons so let's dig in... PROS: great for a large group get together, close to the town of Marion that has most all amenities, only about 35-40 to Asheville, close proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway, also close to High Country locations ( Little Switzerland, Boone, Blowing Rock, Roan Mountain, etc) for easy day trips, access to incredible motorcycle or bicycle riding, 65-70 paved sites with paved side patio, spacious sites, back in sites on the Catawba River(tubing and fishing), TRASH pickup daily, on-site cafe, on-site laundry, modern and clean bathhouse. Strong Cell Signal...we run Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile...all work great. One of our favorite things is the amount of open space and on-site trail that allows our dogs off-leash freedom. After on-leash walking out of the common areas, there are a number of places to let them off to wander, sniff, and chase squirrels. Dog waste stations would be a really nice addition!!! CONS: Cons: no cable, no actual WIFI, limited air channels (ABC and 4 PBS, that's it), beyond well-lit at night, prone to ground saturation during rainy times, a growing number of long-term campers that appear more "trailer-park" patrons than RV "Resort" patrons, only 2 washers and dryers for over 500 sites. The biggest issue is getting mail, especially FedEx...you will need to chase it down amongst various possible delivery locations on site. Overall, this is a nice park far enough out of the bustle of Asheville, yet close enough to go whenever you feel the urge. But better yet, it is a good place to access the Blue Ridge Parkway and a great place for Fall Leaves.

For The Campground at Tom Johnson Camping Center: Camping World bought out Tom Johnson so campground’s named MARION RV Campground. Had trouble finding online reservation link, so phoned to make res — Note: office reservations is closed on Sunday so make res in advance. Ditto good comments below. Will return especially for Good Sam price $35, 30amp /full hookup, on grass. Deluxe is more.

For The Campground at Tom Johnson Camping Center: Very nice campground. Easy to pull in level sites. Wifi good. Phones work great. Plenty of space between sites. Nice stream on campground. Rained the whole time so we couldn’t get out to often at site. Little cafe close by has good food. There is an RV mechanical shop right here too. Be careful when calling about reservations last minute as we did. We were told just pick an empty spot as we would arrive past closing. Not so true an hour after we set up (about 6:30 pm) someone showed up with paperwork for our spot. We had to move. Guy wasn’t very nice either. We had to find a late working mechanic at the shop to clear things up for us at the attached campground. Otherwise it was good.

For The Campground at Tom Johnson Camping Center: Stayed for 3 nights. Nicely spaced sites with plenty of room. Paved roads and sites with good water, sewer and electric hookups. 3 bars LTE on ATT and Verizon. Park has average campground wifi. Next to river and lots of greenspace for walking, biking and relaxing. Campground is next to a well stocked Camping World. Helpful staff that made reservations on phone easy and quick. Campground has a security gate that is closed after hours. There is also a rally campground on the other side of the property. Well maintained and good value with the Good Sam discount.
