For Oliver Lee Memorial State Park: Spent 2 nights here in early May as a jumping off place to White Sands. Don’t be fooled driving out to Oliver Lee - as you leave the highway, off in the distance you will see what looks like a not well kept up trailer park. But after you drive the five miles to the base of the mountains, it’s a nice place to be. Little and no shade. Many of the RV sites are close to level, but not quite, so have that in your thinking. Had 2 bars of AT&T at least much of the time. Clean restroom/showers. Went a little way up the longer trail (Dog Canyon?) and walked the 1/2 mile or so length of the shorter level nature trail to a picnic area. The office was not open while we were there as we experienced at some other New Mexico parks. Not sure if it was too early in the season or some other reason.

For Oliver Lee Memorial State Park: I gave this park 4 stars because it is absolutely beautiful! The Sacramento Mountains are breathtaking. They have a small but very nice museum. We loved the Riparian Nature Trail along the wash. Alamogordo is one of my favorite places in New Mexico. The only downside is the sites aren't level. I saw another reviewer online call it "slope camping" and that sums it up. We have a 40' fifth wheel and it makes it more difficult when the sites aren't somewhat level. We got it leveled but that's because we've been full-timing for 14 years and know what to do. I am glad we experienced this park but probably would stay somewhere else next time we're in the area.

For Oliver Lee Memorial State Park: This small State Park nestled near the mountains did not disappoint. In fact, I wish I could have stayed longer than one night. The campsites are generous, immaculate and well-spaced. There are some nice walking trails and if you are a serious hiker you can climb the Dog Leg trail. I only got 1/4 mile up and decided to turn around. There is a dispersed camping area about a half mile before the campground, but as inexpensive as the site was, I am happy I stayed in the campground. You will be too!

Shaggy Camping

For Oliver Lee Memorial State Park: We stayed 4 nights in site #10 with a 28’ pull behind. Sites are gravel and all seemed level and they were spaced nicely. Beautiful Mountain Views. We had good at&t cell service and a couple El Paso TV stations. Hiked the entire Dog Canyon Trail which was amazing. We spent an afternoon hiking into Dog Canyon as well. There is one shower house (2 shower stalls) which was very clean. We didn’t take the tour of the Oliver Lee homestead ($5 per car) but I bet it would be interesting. Dump station is open 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Like someone else mentioned you have to do a “U” turn to use it.

Indiana jones

For Oliver Lee Memorial State Park: Easy booking online with NM recreation that also maps the sites and amenities for your reference. Arrived at night to a sky full of stars—imagine our surprise when we woke to gorgeous panoramic mountains with desert foliage! There is only one bathroom facility so try to find a site where it is close by. They are clean and well maintained and there are also 2 hot showers (low flow model). The sites are spacious and many have picnic tables with awnings. We picked site 28 which is no electric but overlooks most of the campground and blocks wind because it has an awning. Although the website said it had a slight slope, that was no problem for our little sprinter. Also only 14$ for 2 adults!! Stay here you won’t regret it

Carrie and Paul

For Oliver Lee Memorial State Park: Beautiful state park. Stayed in site 22 with 34 ft 5th wheel. No problem at all. Spacious sites and clean restrooms. Only caution I would give is the dump station. The station is on the wrong side so pass the first turn and go into the 2nd and all will be good!

Leslie

For Oliver Lee Memorial State Park: One of the best campgrounds I've ever seen. Beautiful scenery, great campsites, clean bathrooms and showers. Get a site with an awning that blocks wind and sun. We stayed at 28 and I think it is the best site.
