Jody and George

For Whispering Elms Campground: Pulled in with intent to visit NP. Pulled out 5 minutes later. They charged us $15 for cancelling. Sketchy, unkempt, gross. We decided to skip the NP.

HJD

For Whispering Elms Campground: Close to National Park...check. Place to park and hook-up....check. That’s about it. Really nice people to work with. Had campers running opposite directions beside each other. Kind of weird to have doors facing each other. WiFi was fair. You are really away from everything. Sites are pretty close together. Food truck at entrance. Tiny grocery store across the street open 2-8pm. Restrooms clean.

Mark

For Whispering Elms Campground: Last resort for GBNP. Convenient location with hookups but not well maintained or clean and management not interested in the place, e.g., the dump tank was full and we weren’t told and then it overflowed when used. Most sites not setup for picnic tables and fires.

Mull

For Whispering Elms Campground: Pulled in here when the CGs in Great Basin NP were full. Nice shade trees, sites overall crowded and gravel. The CG also has a motel associated with it. No picnic tables. Cost in the 30s for a night in June. Good spot for staging a visit into the park or trying to get a CG spot in the park the following day. The town of Baker has one gas station and a few shops to eat at. Gas stations are far in between.

KC

For Whispering Elms Campground: Gravel and pretty level, nice big cottonwood trees. Easy access to Great Basin National Park. Bathrooms were not cleaned the two nights we were here and the internet is slow. If you have Verizon, decent hotspot. Great new restaurant in town, Kerouac’s.

For Whispering Elms Campground: Stayed 2 nights to visit Lehman Cave. Site was dirt with previous dog feces, seemed like the sites were not checked between visitors. I had a back in site which had the power at the rear of the site and the sewer at the front of the site with the water in the middle. Internet was almost non functional afternoons to evenings but worked better after midnight. There was a bar/office in the front and a motel at the rear of the property facing the rv sites. At night you could hear the coyotes howling after a kill, the areas beyond the fences were littered with old equipment and junk. Bathrooms needed cleaning. Picnic tables were in need of repair and some sites had no fire pits. The tent area was filled with tree bark and chips. The town had a new restaurant that seemed fairly good although it was closed on Monday. The rest of the town was closed and the fuel at the only station was about 50 cents higher than prevailing prices.

Kathy

For Whispering Elms Campground: We'd suggest either spring or fall so you could take advantage of one of four Federal campgrounds surrounded by great hiking! When we arrived at Whispering Elms our initial feeling was to leave but really not many options if you want some hookups. Old for isn't an issue but clean restrooms, kept sites, a usable picnic table and a covered dumpster should be to much to ask. As for the motel, laundry didn't hear many good comments not to mention no grassy areas for you tent campers. With a some effort you could be sitting on a gold mine!
