The Camper

For Cool Lea Camp: We planned to camp there but unfortunately my husband had an injury and we had to cancel our trip for the summer. We gave a 50% non refundable deposit of $209 for 7 nights. I just want to make sure that everyone knows that the management will not work with you should you have to cancel for an emergency. Since we had planned to be there for a week, our deposit wasn't cheap, plus I had several phone calls to Tom, the owner, to make sure that my money went thru to his account for the initial reservation which was a hiccup on his reservation system. Yes, it is clearly stated as a non refundable deposit so make sure that you don't have to cancel, for any reason, as they will not work with you to refund even a portion of the deposit which they did not earn.

For Cool Lea Camp: We had a wonderful time spending our long weekend at Camp Kool Lea. The owners Wayne & Rose Ann were friendly & helpful. We rented the cottage, which sits right on the lake & offered absolutely beautiful views. Regulars who frequent this campground, where also welcoming. There was free use of the rowboats, kayaks& canoes, as well as unlimited supply of firewood each evening. There was a large covered indoor area with a huge flat screen TV, allowing us the opportunity to watch the NASCAR race with other campers. The cottage itself was perfectly stocked with everything we needed (stove, overnight, pots/pans, coffee pot, toaster, microwave, fridge, dish soap, & kitchen utensils) nicely decorated with personal touches & plenty of room for up to 4ppl. We also had free access to the gas grill. They also offer coffee in the morning at the main office. Since we stayed during the 4th of July weekend, we were able to view a great fireworks show from across the lake. The a long walk around the primitive sights offered a nice nature trail hike. Watkins Glen is a short drive away. We definitely will be returning since it was such a positive experience.

Imagineer

For Cool Lea Camp: Stayed last August during the NASCAR race weekend. Just brought a small pop up camper.

When I called to make the reservation (@6pm) the man who answered the phone was appalled that I called during dinner. That should've been my first clue.

When we got to the camp, everyone seemed ok. He helped us get to our spot and guided us back in (#rookies). After a day at the track, we came back and went to hop off the dock into the lake. NOPE! Wrong idea. After being chased down by the old man on his golf cart, we decided to just head back.

No, crazy stories about getting cursed at, but we're pretty easy going dudes, so we weren't confrontational with him. I can see how is aggressiveness could be a turnoff for people.

It really felt like if you weren't a seasonal camper with a destination camp down on the lake, then you were just a nuisance.

Park was ok. Bathrooms were clean and the pay showers were nice. Lots of trees where we were and had a storm come through and knock some down. We dodged them all, though!

For Cool Lea Camp: We stayed this past weekend. Arrived late than expected and owners couldn't be more accommodating. Found this to be a wonderful location very convenient and just beautiful. Highly recommend to others!

For Cool Lea Camp: Clean wash rooms in well-maintained spacious and groomed lots. Very nice owners. Centrally located between Watkins Glen, Trumansburg, Ithaca so you can do the circuit and visit two Finger Lakes and multiple Falls in a day with one park pass. A common area, TV, Wi-Fi is available. There is a children's playground. Swimming doesn't look good with Algae in the lake, but it is August and water levels may be low. All the falls had low flows. The speed bumps are not a big deal, and many parks want to see a walking pace 5 MPH. Only some lots have sewer... there is a dumping station that serviced our needs on the way out. I'd stay again.

Scott

For Cool Lea Camp: Very nice campground located on the edge of a lake. Great
views. Also easy access to the lake for swimming or boating. We are
tent campers and use on site bathrooms. They are limited but very
clean. They provide disposable paper bath mats which is a nice touch
I haven't seen anywhere else. The tent areas are off on their own and
away from the other RV's and main part of the grounds. This is nice
because they are darker and quieter at night, perfect for tent
camping. The sites are not well maintained. Our site had a lot of
trash left by the previous user. I first blame the previous user.
They never should have left their site in that condition and have no
respect. Most campground we go to usually inspect their sites and
make sure they are ready for the next and this one was not. Also the
trees were not maintained. Many widow makers (dead branches) overhead
which made it difficult to find a good location for our tents.
Overall and nice place to stay, just look up before pitching your
tent.

For Cool Lea Camp: Vulgar Hosts, Shockingly Rude. We were looking for a nice camp site in the Finger Lakes area and found Cool Lea campground in Odessa on Lake Cayuta. Everything seemed normal from the highway, but after we pulled into the driveway, we were met with a series of gigantic speed bumps that rattled our vehicle and nearly bottomed out going only 10mph. We continued up the long drive towards the office to inquire about available sites. I parked the car and approached the office when an angry man came chasing after us on a lawn mower, slammed his gear on the ground and approached me as if he wanted a fight..... This was the lovely owner of the campground. He began to yell at me about "speeding" in his campground. I tried to explain to him that we were only going 10mph (up the very long driveway, mind you..) a reasonable speed, and that his speed bumps nearly caused damage to our car. He wouldn't listen to a word. Just kept screaming to get out of his property.? We were shocked.? I then decided I would never give this man my money, and proceeded to leave the camp. He blocked us in at the exit and was joined by a woman and 4 children (whom we presumed to be his daughter and grand kids). I beeped my horn once to say "Let us out", and the woman began cursing at us, and flipping her finger in front of her young children. I rolled down my window to attempt to explain the situation to her, and she just continued to curse. Finally the man moved his tractor, and we were allowed to leave. Worst campground hosts ever.
