Squeaky

For Gales Creek Campground: Was looking for a last minute place to camp on a weekend in August near Portland. Pulled in around noon on a Friday and only 2 spots left. I got one and the other was filled within 30 mins. Set on a small creek, not quite deep enough for swimming or wading. Site was OK. Good hiking trails right at the campground. Was pretty quiet for being full. Most people in tents. I was in a van. No hookups. $21

For Gales Creek Campground: We drove out to see how it looked and found it is still closed, though the signs say it will open in "the Spring"; we visited it on May 16, 2016.
Also, beware that the road in is ONE lane and carries traffic in and out. When we do stay there with our RV one of us will be a spotter out in front of the RV.

For Gales Creek Campground: Seems to be a pretty popular site. It's FC/FS and people were driving through well into the evening trying to find spots. The campground is typical Nat'l/State Forest fare. Nothing fancy, but as the descriptions says it is far off the highway which makes it very nice. There are lots of trails that make their way from the site, they range from less than a mile one way to much longer hikes as they connect with Wilson River trailheads. Gales Creek itself provides some running water sound at night (we camped there in August) and there are holes where kids can swim.
