Donna

For KOA Journey Mitchell: Would have given 5 star if sites were a bit more spaced out. That being said, what an unexpected surprise. Chose this campground for a one night stop without having prior reservations. Jerry the owner was very kind and where can you find a KOA pull through for $35 a night. We were not full hookup as they were sold out but what a treat to have a shaded campground in 102 degree weather. Also a pool and putt putt golf to boot. Site was level we had to do nothing but put stabilizers down. I’m not sure why people are bad mouthing this campground though I did notice most are old reviews. Do yourself a favor, book at this KOA I know would definitely come back if I’m in the area.

Jane

For KOA Journey Mitchell: Stayed here on our way home to Iowa and found it to be just okay. The sites are very small and very packed in. We heard the neighbors wake up and there was little room to sit out in our very cramped site. It’s far off the interstate, so their is no road noise. It was okay, but I think I will go back to our other choice in Mitchell on our next pass through town so we won’t need to disconnect our toad.

Randy

For KOA Journey Mitchell: 08/2020 Stopped on our way to Custer SP. it was completely full by morning. Didn’t use shower or bathroom. Has a small pool. Has a small put put course that was free. Marco’s pizza will deliver to campsite that was a bonus. Quiet, shaded. Would stop over again.

Moira

For KOA Journey Mitchell: A great place to stay while driving I-90 across SD. We were lucky enough to be there over a Saturday when the Corn Palace Rodeo and Parade were happening. It was very fun to watch the parade. Of course, the morning started off with a Thunderstorm Warning! We survived. They actually have tornado shelters at this KOA. I appreciated that! The facilities (laundry/bathrooms) were very nice here. We use both. Our spot with full hookups worked for us perfectly.

AS1

For KOA Journey Mitchell: Stayed here twice while passing through. PROS: - Short drive to downtown Mitchell, SD - Easy access of Int. 90. Far enough away from the interstate to avoid road noise. - Quiet - Friendly staff - Fair to good tree coverage. - Pool, mini golf and small playground for kids CONS: - Most sites are VERY close/tight. Fine for passing through but would not stay here multiple days. - Gravel pad sites. - No concrete patios. - KOA website does not allow you to view individual site availability and does not allow you to book multiple sites at once.

For KOA Journey Mitchell: We stand here for one night and found the host very friendly. The pull through sites are easy to get in with plenty of room between units. We have three dogs and liked the dog park available - two separate areas with a safe entry area to get in. Dog waste collection areas throughout the campground. The best part was the mowed walking areas in a tall grass meadow behind the campground to give the dogs lots of sniffing areas. Laundry room was clean with a nice lending library. Showers were the BEST! Rain head shower with plenty of hot water. This was an amazing break from boondocking in the Black Hills.

Joesmainship

For KOA Journey Mitchell: This is a bit better than the typical KOA but has a lot of the same pros and cons. The Pros: Great helpful staff with escort to your site, all pull thrus, FHU, strong WiFi, pool, mini golf, tornado shelters around the park. Far enough from I-90 to mitigate traffic noise, nice rural area but close enough to town for shopping and restaurants, lots of mature shade trees. The Cons: High price, sites way too close together, barely enough room to open an awning, they advertise 1 OTA channel but I couldn’t pick it up and no cable TV. If you don’t have satellite TV, you are out of luck here. Given all that, it is an okay short stay if you don’t mind the price.
