For Ellsworth AFB FamCamp: Stayed in the overflow - an abandoned parking lot with electric hookups on the flight line. There was no signage to get from the main FamCamp to the overflow, a few miles away. Difficult to get anyone to answer the phone to make a reservation (thus the overflow lot), or to give directions once there. The main FamCamp looked nice, and the restrooms/showers were okay if not rundown.

For Ellsworth AFB FamCamp: Very nice Famcamp. Sights are concrete, bathrooms and laundry are kept clean. Staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. Downside, if you are in the pull thrus, you have a walk to the bath houses. The overflow sights are under construction but looks like they will have electricity, but there won’t be many. Would recommend this camp for your stay in the Black Hills.

For Ellsworth AFB FamCamp: Typical military campground. No problem getting our 36ft 5th wheel in. I recommend the back-in sites. The pull-thru sites are kinda close to each other. And the star shape layout of the back-in sites are really easy to back in to and provide much better room and views.

George

For Ellsworth AFB FamCamp: The campground is not visible from the gate! When we told the gate guards we were headed to the campground, they did not offer to give us directions. Admittedly, they were doing security checks of vehicles. The signage, as we have found on most bases, is small. Wifi was perfect! I did not notice cable TV available but we were able to pull in 20 channels on Digital antenna. There is a bath and garbage dumpster is centrally located. The receptionist was great. She provided a map of the base however, the gates are not indicated so follow the instructions on this page in reverse and hang a left at Davis to get to the gate. The sites was not level but nothing a functioning leveling system could not handle easily. We used two levels of blocks to level out quickly, Water and sewer at each site is nice. There was some recent construction so the entry road to the campground was torn up and soft. The damaged portion was improved by the time we left the next morning. The lawn needed to be mowed. Very few trees for shade. The winds were very strong so no one had their awnings out. The service station has diesel at one set of pumps conveniently located however, no DEF at the pump. The pumps at the service station are available 24/7. The base gym is large and well equipped and free. If you register, you can gain 24/7. The walk to the gym is a good warm up.

Christmas

For Ellsworth AFB FamCamp: We discovered it was full, but the good news is they do have an overflow area. The overflow area is about 2.6 miles away from campground. (They are planning to have overflow moved closer to the campground.)
The overflow area has electric, and one water faucet in a field next to the corner where you pull in to over flow area. The overflow is like a large parking area with diagonal lines for parking guides. You share an electrical box with two 30 amp. each box. I have not counted them but I thing they have about 16 overflow sites. We also enjoyed watching about 10 deer around us each night. Aircraft are noisy when they take off but our earplugs work well and the number of flights seem minimal

We have reservation for two nights in the main campground. The main campground does have sites with nice grass between each site. The have some trees but enough open areas if you have a movable satellite dish. They have nice showers and locations with good wifi.

Mike

For Ellsworth AFB FamCamp: This is the nicest and most inexpensive park in the Rapid City area. I stayed a little over 3 weeks and loved every minute. The first site I went in to didn't work for me because a big tree blocked my satellite dish. The RV park personnel worked with me to move to a better site. The laundry facility is clean and FREE. You can't beet the security and peace of mind being located on a military base.

Ensmitch

For Ellsworth AFB FamCamp: Loved this park! Free laundry but no doggie bags as previously reported. Great base for sight-seeing. We spent a day exploring Deadwood, Lead, Spearfish, Sturgis. On another day we explored Custer State Park, Crazy Horse and Iron Mountain scenic drive. The third day we headed off to Keystone, Mt Rushmore and the Needles scenic drive. Then we took a day to go downtown to view the life-sized bronze statues of presidents on all the street corners of Rapid City.

Pull-through sites are not as pretty or spacey as back-ins.

We stayed here in a 34' MH with car in tow.
