For Chilhowee Recreation Area: So hopefully this review will save someone else from making the same mistake that I did! If you have a big RV I would highly recommend you find a different place to go! I have a 38’ 5er weighing around 14k and a 09 Chevy Duramax Dually.. the road going to the campground is up the whole way for several miles and curvy roads.. my truck engine and transmission overheated half way u! Finally was able to turn around at an overlook.. had to put my truck in 4x4 LOW on the way down just to not overheat my brakes!! I’m sure the campground is awesome but not worth us chancing damage to my truck to get there.

For Chilhowee Recreation Area: My children, dogs and I stayed at this campground for two weeks. We absolutely loved it! It was beautiful, safe, quiet, and the camp post and his wife are some of the nicest people I've ever met! Even when I called down to the ranger station, the people there were so nice! I can't ost and his wife really go out of their way to help you and make sure that you are happy. There are numerous walking trails everywhere and, though there was often quite a bit of trash along the trail, I've seen worse. It was not an easy place to find, however, and I begin to wonder by the time I got there if I was anywhere near the right road? The showers were hot and the water pressure is good, and the only real complaint we had was lack of water hook ups and sewer

For Chilhowee Recreation Area: Lovely campground but busy. Do not follow your GPS or Google Maps. They take you through Benton and to a steep, gravel road with lots of hairpin turns. This road should be marked 4 wheel drive only and no trailers. (we slipped and slid all the way) Insteax from I75 exit onto Rt 74/64 and stay on it. This will take you along the North side of a lake. Watch for a turn on your left onto Oswald Rd. Follow this windy but paved road, enjoy the views, and arrive safely at the campground.
