For Elkmont Campground - Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Tent camped here a couple weeks ago. Bathrooms were pretty well maintained, and Ranger office and snack shack are staffed again. Firewood and other concessions can be purchased on site. The river was fun for fishing and swimming, with smaller areas for my 2 and 4yr old to cool off. We will return with our Skoolie!!

For Elkmont Campground - Great Smoky Mountains National Park: This is a beautiful location with lots of hikes, rivers and vista lookouts nearby. The bathrooms are not available at this time. No hook ups. Generator only allowed on some loops and only from 8am-8pm. Sewer dump 6 miles away at Sugarland Visitor center. The concessions store is not in service either. Bring your own firewood and water. Ranger station not manned by paid personnel. The volunteers were incredible! It was very quiet and dark at night. Not much through traffic. No fireflies this weekend. We loved our weekend at Elkmont but we have a travel trailer with solar. Lots are tight fits because of the large tree and bolder placement as well as the pads not being angled. Pay attention to length restrictions of pads. We had a great time and will be back.

For Elkmont Campground - Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Stayed for 11 days during the fall colors. The campground is typical National Park with no electricity and no water at your campsite. Multiple loops. Bathrooms are without warm water, soap and towels. Roads through the campground are deteriorating and there are multiple pot holes. Gatlinburg is very close and, during the morning, thousands of cars carrying visitors who stay in motels clog the roads, pullouts and parking lots. Motel based visitors do drive through the campground looking for fall colors and trailheads. This is the most visited National Park. Be sure you choose a generator-allowed loop if you need to power an RV. DO NOT USE YOUR GPS IF YOU ARE COMING THROUGH TOWNSEND AND PULLING AN RV OR IN A CAMPER. The road makes a 90 degree turn onto a one lane bridge and you will need the help of park rangers to backup and drive out. I’ll be back to GSMNP but I’ll stay at another campground and stay as far away from Gatlinburg as I can.

For Elkmont Campground - Great Smoky Mountains National Park: This is our favorite campground in the Smokey’s. Mountain stream running through it, trout fishing, snacks, ice some camping supplies and firewood for sale. Tons of shade, always much cooler in this campground. Lots of trails are accessible from the ground and a cute little block of old vacation homes. I believe they demolished all houses except this one street. When the water is up and flowing you can go tubing right in the campground. For RV’s the dump station is not on site, it is by the Surgarland Visiter Center 6.8 miles away. Love this place!
