For Chisos Basin Campground - Big Bend National Park: Site 43 in a truck camper for 2 days Jan 5-7 2022. This site is appropriate only for a small car and a tenter. The pad is actually just a slight widening in the road. So the campground traffic goes right by your door. The information on the Reservation site was incorrect. Other sites in the campground are better. Check before you go. Only my Verizon jet pack worked here and not AT@T or T-mobile. I could not get Dish reception presumably for the surrounding hills. No services. A mother bear and two cubs came into camp of a neighbor this morning. Good place for a hiker with a tent or small rig.

For Chisos Basin Campground - Big Bend National Park: We loved Chisos Basin campground! The campground is in a perfect location to access the best hikes for your average hikers, and even some challenging hikes for more experienced hikers. The road getting into the campground is very steep, but doable for most all vehicles, but if you’re towing a trailer, make sure your vehicle can handle steep hills. The campground itself is simple and perfect to feel like you are truly in nature. You’re surrounded by big mountains all around with unique rock formations, and the star visibility at night is unreal! The sites are primitive, no electric or water at your site, with a few clean drinking/filling water spouts shared among campers, clean toilets with hot water sinks, and spots 1-18 allow generators, all other spots do not. Generally speaking, it looked like camping trailers were in spots 1-18, and mostly tents or small trailers/vans used the other spots. 1/11/21-1/16/21 We stayed in spot #35 with a popup camper by the restroom and water spout, and loved it so much we booked more nights in spot #34. The Chisos Basin visitor center is a few minute drive from the campground and is a great starting point for many hikes and views. There is also a convenience store for ice and snacks by the visitor center. We enjoyed the “window trail”, “window view trail”, “laguna meadows trail”, and the “lost mine trail”. The camp host “Mark” was so friendly and helpful with informing campers about bears and mountain lions to make you feel safe, and shared pictures with us of a mama bear and her two cubs that visited the campground while we were on a hike. For Chisos Basin Campground - Big Bend National Park: This place is beautiful. Campsites are small and can be on an incline but there is flush toilets and drinking water available. Take the length limit restrictions for RVs seriously because the parking for sites is very short.

For Chisos Basin Campground - Big Bend National Park: Beautiful view driving into the campground, especially at sunset. We were actually lucky enough to see 2 bears lounging on a rock above the campground. We arrived to Big Bend a couple of days after the busy season ended and so they didn't take reservations. Unfortunately, the first night was full when we got there and ended up camping in Cottonwood Campground, which turned out to be wonderful. The second night, we were able to find a spot in Chisos Basin campground. The campground was not as pretty nor as roomy as Cottonwood, but the higher elevation and cooler temperatures were desirable, since we were traveling with a pet. Restrooms had flush toilets so that was nice.

For Chisos Basin Campground - Big Bend National Park: This is the most popular Campground at Big Bend - probably because the higher elevation means lower temperatures. Reservations are only accepted during the "busy" season. We came in October when reservations are not accepted and got one of the few remaining sites when we arrived at lunchtime midweek. Because of the sloped parking areas most sites are more suited for tents than RV's that need to be relatively level.

For Chisos Basin Campground - Big Bend National Park: Recommended max size RV 24ft but saw bigger up there. It would mean being blind on a few of the bends in the road. We camped at Crofton Springs in the park for a $12 dollar permit for 2 weeks and went up on our motorbike.
$12 dollars a night November 2015

For Chisos Basin Campground - Big Bend National Park: Black bear sightings are becoming more frequent and occasionally mountain lion sightings around Chisos Basin.
