For South Campground - Zion National Park: Oct 2019: The "South Campground" is less appealing in a few ways than the "Watchman Campground" just to the west. There are fewer trees and vegetation, and a lot more bare earth (dust, gravel and rock), so the sites are less defined, less shaded and less private. We didn't stay in the campground, but did use the RV Dump Station. Unlike the dump station at the Watchman Campground, it's not necessary to go through the South Campground check-in station to access this dump site. There are two lanes at the dump station, and two waste inlets, so 2 RVs can dump at the same time, PROVIDED one RV is facing the campground check-in station and the other RV is facing as though leaving the campground. The waste inlets are in a concrete trough between the two lanes. A single rinse water standpipe with attached short hose is provided at the waste inlets. There is a separate potable freshwater standpipe with standard hose threads about 30 feet away from the waste inlets, between the two lanes, at the end of the concrete trough furthest from the check-in station. The freshwater supply is positioned so that the RV faced TOWARDS the campground check-in station should get water BEFORE moving forward to the waste inlet to dump, and the RV faced as though LEAVING the campground should get water AFTER dumping and then moving forward from the waste inlet. There is no fee to use the dump station facility, apart from whatever Entrance Fee (or Pass) you must have already paid (or used) to enter the National Park.

For South Campground - Zion National Park: This campgrounds biggest asset is location in Zion. You can walk to the visitor center an the bus stop.

The sites are large but mostly gravel. Trees offer some shade but no privacy. Flush toilets were adequate. Camp host Doug was friendly and helpful.

AT&T signal is strong.

For South Campground - Zion National Park: We were looking for a place to stay central to activities in Zion National Park. We're self contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed weekdays on May in our 25 foot MH.

This CG is beautifully situated at the base of Zion Canyon surrounded by views of cliffs. It is very well maintained. The sites vary in size with a variety of orientations to allow privacy. Most have a mix of sun and shade and most are level. There are no hookups. There's a dump station and potable water near the entrance. There's no wifi. ATT and Verizon coverage is good. All sites at South CG are first come first serve. Cars begin to line up before 6am. The hosts are friendly and helpful assigning sites as they are vacated. The day we arrived, the first 35 cars got sites and the CG was full by 9am. There are alternative commercial and BLM campsites outside the south entrance to Zion. Watchman is the other CG in Zion NP and is reservation only.

South CG is a short walk from the Zion bus route that provides access to all Zion Canyon points as well as the town of Springdale.

For South Campground - Zion National Park: South CG is no reservation. Very busy. Some spaces are close together but outside ones are great. Lots of families. New shuttle service is great! Trail to Watchman from CG is plus.

For South Campground - Zion National Park: One of the best parks ever. Power in the watchman campground. Loop A and B only. We love it here.!
