DaVida

For Claytor Lake State Park: Campground is on a peninsula sticking into lake, trails along lakeshore, boat ramp. Gravel/paved sites, picnic table. Clean bathhouse with 4 separate rooms with toilet, sink, shower. Friendly staff.

Christmas

For Claytor Lake State Park: Enjoyed walking on their trails. Some are paved and some are dirt but all are enjoyable. The Lake was looked enjoyable but my kayak and canoe are 2,500 miles away so I didn't get to try out the lake. Did feel that it was on the expensive side of a state park. About 1/2 of the sites are site specific. The way I understand it is that these sites are reservable the other sites you can select which site you want when you get here. The site specific are more expensive. You should check on this feature. The cell phone service for AT&T and T-Mobile were very limited. They said they had WiFi at one of the building, but when we checked with the ranger they said they didn't have WiFi yet. We have a portable Dish satellite and were able to get some of their satellites on site 15. Most of the RV sites are parallel to each other but they do have a some space between the sites. The shower area looked nice. They did have a sink to clean dishes behind the bathhouse.

We did drive around the park. They do have some very nice cabins and a campground area for tents.

Crys

For Claytor Lake State Park: Was passing through so decided to stop for night. Just assumed rate was around $20-$25 like most state parks, so didn't ask rate until after I hooked up. Then attendant told me it was $42. I almost decided to leave because it was first night of trip so could have dry camped instead. I'm glad I didn't leave. The park was so beautiful and well-maintained. There is a beach/lake area and numerous walking trails that I thoroughly enjoyed. The bathroom and shower facilities were in close proximity to hookup site, and were immaculate. Stayed until 1pm checkout. If u happen to be a VIRGINIA resident, rate is $5 less.
