For Thompsons West End Park: It looks like a nice campground but everything online says it's first come, first served but there were reservation tags on a lot of the spots. We really wanted to stay there and there was an empty spot but it said it was reserved for 4 days. It had the person's name, days they reserved, car license number, etc. Not sure why it says first come, first served when you can reserve a spot. Very frustrating!! We would have reserved a spot had we known it was possible. And then there were some spots being reserved with camp chairs. That shouldn't be allowed either at a FCFS campsite.

For Thompsons West End Park: This was one of the nicest campgrounds we have stayed in. It was well kept and convenient, and right on Lake Superior. The campground host was very nice, and regularly made the rounds to pick up litter. The premium sites adjacent to the lakeshore were particularly nice. It was a great place for our dog, too.

Terri

For Thompsons West End Park: Right on Lake Superior, economical at $27/night first come, no reservations, 30/50 amp service. Water nearby to fill tank. Dump station near front. Open and level sites. Quiet mid Sept on weekend. Used as a base to explore Madeline Island. We were site 39 only because 36-44 ( first row with best view of LS) were not available, 36 -37 may be seasonals. Clean, well kept city park with nearby trails. I could definitely stay for a week if had the time. Our cable didn’t work so couldn’t use. WiFi was in and out.

Just a camper

For Thompsons West End Park: $25 for a nice site with electric. Fresh water and dump also available. $0.75 for a 3 mi Ute shower. The camp is a mixture of seasonal, long term and short term. On a weekday it was quiet. Two bars LT E T-mobile.

For Thompsons West End Park: Great base for Apostle Islands, clean, safe... large sites, mostly level, good utilities and Verison and WiFI ... cable was not working on our site. Excellent views of lake from #44. Good value @ only $25 ...50amp

DS VT

For Thompsons West End Park: We were looking for a place to stay that would enable us to explore the Bayfield Peninsula and the Apostle Islands. We're self-contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed on weeknights in August.

This campground is a gem. The sites were large. Most had views of Lake Superior. It is self-service with a host - we didn't meet the host. There's good Verizon and ATT coverage. There's free wifi with variable speeds, depending upon time of day. Most sites have electric and there's an artesian well (standard hookup available) and dump station near the entrance/exit.

There's a swimming beach and marina a short walk from the campground. The Washburn Lakefront Walking Trail is 1.4 miles between West End and Memorial Campgrounds and includes several beaches, marinas and historical interpretive signs. It's a 6 blocks to the IGA for food/beverages. It's 13 miles to Bayfield for the Apostle Island cruises. Roads have good shoulders for road biking.
