For Shady Rest RV Park: DO NOT GO HERE! We arrived today at Shady Rest and as reviews had mentioned the road was one lane, but not as bad as many exaggerated. It was well paved and no low hanging branches were encountered. There were very tight turns, but we've learned that is West By God Virginia! We climbed up the hill into the park and looked down on our destination. Not good. Looked like a permanent dweller ghetto. No one was around so we called the number and the owner answered and said she would "get her guy to come show us where to go." Her "guy" was nice enough, but a little off and he pointed us to the "only site we have" on top of the hill not in the campground. As you can see it's not even a site! It was a stub up with power of some sort and water next to another permanent dweller on the entrance road. We asked where to dump and he stated there was "a hole down the hill to dump in." We were to have a full hookup site for 7 days which was confirmed with the owner on the phone yesterday! The owner came rolling up in her car and couldn't seem to understand our irritation at not actually having a site let alone a full hookup site! We confronted her about the previous THREE phone calls confirming our reservation and she replied "I cant help it if the pipeline workers show up at night." Us: "Um ma'am those trailers have grass growing through them, they didn't get there last night." She then said we could leave if we wanted, but then she lied again, and this time about something far worse. Two months ago when we called to make reservations she told us that her husband had died two days before. We of course offered condolences and asked if she wanted us to call later; she did not. On a previous call a week ago, she stated that her "husband was in the hospital" and then reversed herself saying "what am I saying he died a while ago." That should've been alarm bells, but true grief is a powerful thing and allowances must be made...so we ignored it. Today when caught in lies she lied again exclaiming "I can't help it my husband died this week." Too much to let go and she was called on it because his obituary says August 31, 2023 is the day he passed and it's despicable to use a loved ones passing to avoid accountability for lying to customers. We got in the truck and pulled out the Allstays Pro app and went to work finding a site elsewhere for the night. The place looked unsafe and you will not be told the truth. Avoid at all costs.

For Shady Rest RV Park: Small mom and pop farm with hookups and no thrills. Owners were friendly. Fine place to stay overnight passing through. As stated in previous reviews the one lane road to get there is dicey but I don’t think you’re likely to have to pass another person. There’s one spot where you could scrape jacks on the way out with an uphill and immediate right turn. We were in a 33ft class c with no toad and did ok.

For Shady Rest RV Park: This RV park not suitable for big rigs with toads. The one lane road is a hazard. The tight hairpin turn and up hill dirt road does not appear safe. On the way out of there my wife drove the toad and I hooked after we got onto paved WV road.

For Shady Rest RV Park: Although the campground is easy going, without many thrills and excellent people to deal with. The drawback is getting there, the very narrow single lane road was nerve racking, fortunately we did not meet any oncoming vehicle while in our motor home.

For Shady Rest RV Park: Bigger rigs beware! Nice little Mom and Pop farm/park, but a terror for bigger rigs to get in and out from. Rigs should be aware that the road to the campground is a one lane only, wooded tree-lined, very hilly, poorly maintained country road with no way to pass another vehicle if you meet someone. We scraped our back jacks pulling one of the steep hills with a nasty little S-curve on the way out.

For Shady Rest RV Park: Great place with friendly folks and quiet serene atmosphere and views. Roads are off the highway but it is worth it and certainly not difficult to navigate.
Would stay there again!
