For Virginian Lodge: This park is just about a mile walk to downtown. It is also close to restaurants and gas. We stayed the first week in October and had a AAA discount so the nightly rate was only about $100. We had access to the resort pool and hot tub which we utilized so that was a nice perk. I overheard the employee at the registration shack say to someone on the phone that she was unsure the rv park would be open next year so be aware.

For Virginian Lodge: Yes, the location is great to enjoy the urban, touristy money suck called Jackson. However, for $180/night, I expect a totally level site and great bathrooms. The bathrooms are dated and the showers very small. When any of your shower neighbors changes their water settings, you either burn or freeze.

For Virginian Lodge: We needed to stay in town, otherwise I would have gone to one of the many Forest Services Campgrounds in the area. Ours was site number 3. It was as good as any campground we have stayed at in terms of being a place to stay with hookups and close to an urbanized area. As others have said, it is expensive, but everything in Jackson is expensive. Before booking, I checked the price of a motel room. The least expensive was more than twice the price of the campsite. As for the electric power substation adjacent to the campground, it is an issue. At the sites closest to the station the 60-120 cycle hum was annoying. It registered 50 decibels on my phone’s db app (I had to listen for it at our site and the steady background noise at my site was 42 decibels. If I were to stay here again I would request a site number less than 75.

For Virginian Lodge: Backin spaces are directly next to a electrical substation. Constant buzzing all night

For Virginian Lodge: Yes, it’s expensive, and yes, the sites are pretty close together…but you are in the middle of Jackson, within walking distance to downtown - we did not use our car and did not have to fight for parking when going downtown. It is also super-close to trails on the mountain for long dog walks. You get access to the Virginian Lodge amenities, and the place is under renovation - a new pool and two hot tubs in a pretty interior courtyard + patio area was complete when we were there, and we loved it. Bathrooms aren’t the best but aren’t the worst. Wifi was weak at our site, so I went to the office or lodge to do some work.

Serena
For Virginian Lodge: It’s totally unbelievable that there is really no other place to camp in Jackson? Yes, this place is convenient, but compared to other destination towns with MANY RV campgrounds to choose from (take Custer, for example), this place is not very nice. The manager is curt, he made us park our motorcycle trailer ON THE STREET (not even in the RV park!) even though we made the reservation WITH the motorcycle trailer. Then, our spot for our Class C was backed into a transformer lot, and our electrical hookup was brightly BLINKING all night through our windows. Pretty yucky place to stay...but there are no other options! Wow.

Ranger Rod
For Virginian Lodge: It’s the location. Yes, it’s expensive and not much space between sites, but it’s right in Jackson and everything is expensive here. Very friendly staff and very clean. I like the National Park campgrounds, but if I can’t get a spot there, I’d definitely stay at the Virginian again.
